It is with the deepest of pain in our hearts that we let family and friends know that Barbara Elizabeth Damiani passed away on Thursday, December 22, 2022 surrounded by her adoring family.
Barbara was born on January 17, 1947, in Bronx, New York to Dorothy and Fleetwood Warde. After living there for most of her young life, the family relocated to Ridgefield, New Jersey. She graduated from Ridgefield Park High School in 1965. She met and married Thomas Damiani of Fairview, NJ on November17,1968. Barbara and Tommy first lived in his family home for a short period of time until they moved to New City, New York where they raised their three children, Lisa, Tracey and Thomas Jason(TJ).
Barbara was a loving wife, an adoring mother, and a spectacular grandmother. Barbara’s greatest joy were moments spent with her family. This included dinners most Sundays at their home, barbecue’s around the pool and even special alone time with “Moonah”. She especially loved the holidays and welcomed everyone into her home. She was a proud grandmother to her nine grandchildren and had a unique and special bond with each and every one of them. This included one-on-one dinners out manicure appointments at the nail salon, shopping sprees, and even foot massage dates followed by Sangria lunches. Her children and her grandchildren knew they could count on“Moonah”whenever they needed her. That included trips to help pack-up college dorms,an escort to a doctor appointment and even a spontaneous pick-up from school, followed by a“bite” at the diner when a grandchild “needed a break”.Barbara was not only beautiful on the outside, her beauty radiated from within. Barbara had the ability to light up every room that she walked into. Her warm and caring demeanor comforted everyone who was lucky to be around her. She made everyone feel special. She had an incredible personality, sense of humor and added levity to even the most serious of times. She loved to laugh. Barbara enjoyed her vacations to Aruba with her husband,Tommy, and their close friends. Barbara also enjoyed spending time with her loving sister-in-law,Geraldine Toniolo, her husband Richard and their three children, Lucille,John and Marianne. Geraldine and Barbara considered themselves more like sisters, then in-laws. Barbara was also an incredible sister to her younger brother, Steven (deceased), and daughter to her parents. Barbara and her mother, Dotty, were best friends, who went everywhere together. They had a very special bond until the passing of her father and more recently, the passing of her mother(October 25, 2022).
Barbara is survived by her loving husband, Thomas Damiani; her three children Lisa Cavallo and her husband Jimmy, Tracey Damiani-Moore, Thomas Jason Damiani and his wife Melissa and her nine grandchildren, Cody, Logan and Dalaney Moore, Isabelle, Chloe, and Josie Cavallo, and Dylan,Trevor and Carlee Damiani.
Barbara was the most special person in the entire world. She was a faithful and loving wife for 53 years, a best friend to all three of her children, a doting “Moonah” to her nine grandchildren and an amazing friend. Like her first grandchild, Cody, once proclaimed, “The whole town loves Moonah.” Barbara cherished her friendships, many of which lasted decades. Barbara was a tremendous role model on how to live a blessed life and be a special person. Barbara loved her faith and attended Church at St. Augustine’s every Sunday. She wore her rosary beads every day and prayed that she would overcome her illness. She believed in signs and felt every red cardinal was one of her parents looking in on her. She fought hard to battle her cancer, prayed for strength and always exuded hope that she would get better for her family. The only pain she had was the pain of seeing her own family suffer.Barbara/Mommy/Moonah was truly loved and will live in our hearts and cherished memories forever. She will be missed every second of every day. It is hard to imagine that time will even heal the deep devastation in our hearts.
Family will receive friends on Thursday, December 29, 2022, from 4-8 pm at Higgins Funeral Home in New City, NY. Her funeral will take place at 10:00 am at St. Augustine’s Church.
