Dr. Carmen F. Almonte of New City, NY, 79 years old, passed away peacefully on May 8, 2019. Carmen was a long time resident of New City, NY. She was born on July 21, 1939 to Jose R. and Maria F. Almonte. She obtained her medical degree from the University of Santo Tomas, Manila, Philippines. She specialized in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics in Lutheran Hospital, in Brooklyn, NY. Then, she practiced in New York City, Yonkers and in Rockland County in Haverstraw, Garnerville, Pomona and New City.
She was a devout Catholic and a daily communicant at St. Augustine's Church. She loved to play the piano and was a member of the Church Choir. She was also a member of the Franciscan Third Order and Legion of Mary. She was an active member of BLD-Bukas Loob sa Diyos (Open in Spirit to God) charismatic community in Rockland County. Carmen's passion was to love and serve God and His people. Her generosity to the poor and the less fortunate was very remarkable throughout her earthly life. Her love and care for her parents and siblings were beyond compare.
Carmen is survived by her brothers Gerardo (Ernestina), Robert (Rizalina), Oscar (Sofia) and her sister Socorro and sisters-in-law Lucita Q. Almonte and Emerlina E. Almonte. She is also survived by many nephews and nieces and grand nephews and grandnieces. She was predeceased by her father, Jose Almonte Sr. and mother, Maria Almonte and brothers Jose Almonte Jr. and Rafael Almonte. She will be dearly missed.
Family will receive friends on Saturday 5/11/2019 from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm and on Sunday, May 12, 2019 from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Higgins Funeral Home in New City, NY. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, May 13, 2019 at 10:00 am, at St. Augustine's Church, New City, NY and followed by interment at St. Anthony’s Cemetery, in Nanuet, NY.
