Christa Luise Placke

She cherished her time spent outdoors, with family, and eating food.

Christa was born in Osnabrück, Germany to Mr. And Mrs. Placke on May 8, 1935. Christa had a brother Karl Heinz Placke, who she last saw at the age of 19, but kept in touch with through letters periodically. Christa survived bomb shelters during World War II and survived harsh conditions in Germany in her childhood. She ran away from home in Germany at the age of 19, to travel the world. Christa went to Brazil and learned new languages. Here she met new people and fell in love. Sadly her fiancé passed away before they were married. Christa traveled the world and learned 7 languages before arriving in the United States. Christa found herself at an Ashram run by Baba Muktananda Ji and became a follower of the Hindu faith. She gave her heart to Guru Gita and sang “Hare Rama Hare Krishna”.

Christa came to live with the Singh Family in 1989, as an Au Pair. She helped Dr. Kuljit Singh and Mrs. Upinder Singh raise their three children Dr. Biba Singh, Rubina Vij, and Harveer Singh. Christa became a part of this family and traveled the world with them from India to the Bahamas, and more. Christa enjoyed singing songs, cooking German Potato Pancakes, and swimming among other things. She became a grandmother to the Singh children.

As the house fell silent from the kids launching their lives, Christa decided to go to an assisted living facility with daily social activities. Christa thrived here making many friends, and boyfriends, dancing, eating, and enjoying her renewed social life.

Christa died peacefully at Hospice of Rockland with her family at her side as she listened to “Hare Rama Hare Krishna”. Christa is welcomed by God with open arms, while she crosses the gates of Heaven we celebrate her life and pray for her peaceful next journey in the humble abode of God.

The viewing (followed by private cremation) of Christa Placke will be held on Sunday, November 13th, 2022 at 12:00pm at Higgins in New City, NY.
