Craig Sloane, 75, of Valley Cottage, New York, passed away on December 12, 2025, in Nyack, New York. Born on May 31, 1950 in the Bronx, New York, to Edith and Elliot Sloane, Craig grew up in New York and New Jersey alongside his brother, Dean, and sister, Robin, and later attended Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri.
Craig lived a life filled with joy, love, laughter, and adventure. A free spirit by nature, his path took him far and wide—hitchhiking across the country, living on a kibbutz in Israel, attending the first day of Woodstock, and serving in the United States Coast Guard. His journey ultimately led him to Manhattan, where he met the love of his life, his wife Barbara.
Craig had a deep passion for world history, politics, and sports of all kinds, especially tennis and golf. Above all, he was a devoted fan of the New York Rangers, Yankees, and Giants—the New York trinity he proudly followed.
Craig worked many jobs throughout his life from amateur modern dancer to stock broker to real estate agent, even a math tutor. However none brought him greater fulfillment than driving the local school bus. Craig transformed every ride into a learning experience, teaching children through games, contests, and conversation. He was the first bus driver to teach kindergartners the presidents and vice presidents, in order. His extraordinary involvement and dedication were recognized by the local newspaper, and he was beloved by students for his humor, warmth, and creativity. He shared his love of learning by passing along classic literature that his own children had grown up reading, leaving a lasting impression on countless young lives.
There was never a moment when Craig wasn’t making a joke, laughing at one of his own, or bringing laughter to others. He lit up every room with his vibrant spirit and could strike up a conversation with anyone he met.
Craig was a deeply loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was affectionately known as “Silly Baba” to his grandchildren, who adored him. He will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
Craig is survived by his wife, Barbara; his children, Adam, Rebecca, and Noah; his brother, Dean, and sister, Robin; his daughters-in-law, Julie and Sonika; and his five cherished grandchildren, Madelyn, Henry, Aarav, Sahana, and Sarah.
Craig will be deeply missed, but legends are never forgotten.
