David “Buddy” was born January 24th, 1933 in Manhattan to Nora (nee Sullivan) and David Hussey. He grew up in the Fordham section of the Bronx surrounded by a tight-knit group of Aunts, Uncles and Cousins. He later resided in Belle Harbor and finally in Riverdale.
Buddy proudly served his country as a Medic in the United States Air Force during the Korean conflict. While in service, Buddy received the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. Following his discharge, Buddy worked for the NY Railroad and retired as a Maintenance Engineer from Madison Square Garden.
Always proud of his Irish heritage, Buddy enjoyed many great times in the Catskills and was a lifetime member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians Division 5 NY County and the Kerryman’s P&B Association.
His loving sister, Nora “Tuttsie” Smith of New City, survives buddy. As well as, his niece, Noreen Cummings (Christopher) of Valley Cottage, his nephew, Donald Smith (Lynne) of Cortlandt Manor and his niece Geralyn Smith of Bardonia. His cherished great-nieces & nephew, Erin, Caroline & Julianne Cummings and Stephanie, Michael, Danielle, Siobhan & Natalie Smith, also survive him, as well as, many beloved cousins.
His brother, John P. Hussey (NYPD), his sister Bridie T. Hartnett and brothers-in-law, Donald C. Smith (NYPD) and Timothy V. Hartnett, predeceased him.
Visitation will be Tuesday, May 15th from 7-9pm. Wednesday, May 16th 2-4 and 7-9pm at Higgins Funeral Home, New City, NY.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday, May 17th at 11:15am at Saint Francis of Assisi, West Nyack, NY. Burial will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Valhalla, NY.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Buddy’s memory can be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
