Felix was my bus driver for 3 years.  I was a new student and he made me feel safe getting home. He was the nicest and best bus driver. He knew all the kids names and showed that he cared. My little brother starts kindergarten this year and I know he’ll be watching over and making sure he gets to school and home safe. My condolences to the family. Me and my family will miss him.

There are some souls so full of light, love, and laughter that you can still feel them even after they’ve left this world. Felix was one of those souls. His presence was larger than life, funny, bold, and endlessly warm.

I’ll never forget the times he lovingly held me hostage in his man cave, talking for hours about everything and nothing, always making me laugh, making me think, and making me feel like I was truly part of the family.

I’m so thankful for the way he welcomed me and my loved ones into your lives with such openness and love. Being around him always felt comforting. It felt like home. Some people only dream of having a relationship with their in-laws like the one Felix helped make a reality for me. For that, I will always feel truly blessed and grateful.

I miss him deeply. I miss the memories we were still supposed to make, the plans he was meant to be part of, all the laughter we still had left to share. I find comfort and peace in knowing that his spirit is still with us, guiding, protecting, and loving us from a place we can’t see yet, and I hope you both feel this too.

I hold you both in my heart with so much love, and I pray for peace and comfort to wrap around you like he always did for us. Irene and Jason, I will love you forever and always be here for you.

You became my brother-in-law 38 years ago—but I never liked the “in-law” part, because you were truly my brother.

Edith and I were ecstatic when we finally moved up to Rockland—it meant living near family, and especially spending more time with you. Felix was a wonderful friend and humble coworker. We worked together for over 22 years at Fedex in NYC. Felix was always ready to help teach and share all of the needed tricks of driving a tractor trailer. 

He also had a great sense of humor. I remember one day he told me he was “banging out”. I said, What does that mean” ? He said that it meant that he’s calling out. I thought that was so funny. I started using the term every time I called out.
When I transferred to Florida I brought the saying to my new station and now all of my coworkers use it when they call out. 

Felix I will never forget the Five Borough Bike Tour when you started before me and I thought I would catch up to you. We kept in contact by phone and I never did catch up to you. You beat me all the way to Staten Island. It was a fun day I will never forget. SIP my friend.

Irene loved talking about Felix. I quickly realized what a special relationship they had with each other. Felix was her best friend. I never had the privilege of meeting Felix personally, but I felt like I knew a little bit of his wonderful personality and sense of humor from the stories Irene would share with me at work. My deepest condolences to you and the family. I think I Met Felix twice, first time at 565 fifth Ave second time from the car at Red Bank NJ orientation. Irene always talks about him being so funny and down to earth, being likeable, especially with the school kids. Irene would always tell us stories about Felix and the kids on the school bus. Felix is a person always wanting to learn new things like photography, while always having a hard time with the technical part but never giving up. He was always able to make Irene laugh out loud when she’s on the phone with him. As much as she gets angry with him, he always puts a smile on her face with the funny things he says. Felix will always be remembered and loved by everyone that knew him.

Felix was an awesome, fun guy...I remember when I had the team to my house many years ago, the Riveras were the last to leave and we didn't mind, we were laughing all night.

And many mornings in the office, Irene would have Felix on speaker phone and he would explain his unique knowledge of business, specifically, who were the trees and who were the branches (Irene will have to explain this to you :-)   )

He will be deeply missed.

I work with Irene and met her husband Felix at an event our company held nearly 20 years ago and found him to be smart, charming, and instantly likable.  As we worked and lived in different places, we only spoke a few times a year, usually when I happened to answer Irene’s phone line.  On those occasions we would chit chat for a while, about everything & anything, until I would reluctantly hand the phone over to Irene.  He was just that easy and interesting to talk with. It’s no wonder why he so was popular with the school kids as Felix was kind, respectful, and easygoing. And I know from Irene that he was so much more than a good-natured conversationalist.  Among other things, Felix was a surfer, a mentor, a student, an adventurer, a photographer, a homebody, a chef, a dancer, and a historian.  He was also a friend, a loving father, brother, uncle, and an attentive son.  Mostly though, Felix was a really nice person and a devoted family man, as well as Irene’s trusted counselor, anchor, and best friend. 
 
To Irene, Jason, and the other family members, and friends, I am so sorry for your loss and hope that you can find some comfort in remembering the many good times you shared with Felix and each other.

Felix made a lasting impression on me every time we were together. And I mean every time. That is a special quality that Felix and only Felix possessed. 

I've worked with Felix's life partner, Irene, for decades and cannot describe the countless times I would overhear Irene laughing with Felix on the phone. And not just laughing, but belly laughing. Which is truly special given the number of years they've been together. I always said Irene and Felix were blessed to have each other.

I've always admired Felix's appetite to learn and the energy level he put into everything he did. He was all in, all the time.

I know Irene will miss Felix beyond words, but I also know she will never be at a loss for a special memory of a Special Person.

When I heard about Felix’s passing, my heart broke. Everyone who knew him spoke so highly of him — not just as a bus driver, but as a truly kind and genuine person.

Felix was my children’s bus driver, but to them, he was so much more. Every morning, he greeted them with a warm smile, making them feel safe, seen, and cared for. Knowing Felix was behind the wheel meant I never had to worry — I knew they were in good hands.

He had a special way of connecting with people. He always took time to talk with my husband and me, often sharing stories or recommending shows he and his wife enjoyed. He was full of life, laughter, and that unforgettable smile.

Bus #1 will never be the same without him. But I truly believe Felix will continue to watch over all of “his kids,” keeping them safe the way he always did — with heart, care, and love.

Felix was my children’s bus driver in Nanuet.
He always had a smile on his face and greeted them every time they took the bus. My children and I will never forget him! He was one of a kind a true angel.

Bonita and I are saddened to hear of Felix Rivera’s passing.  We came to know Felix and his wife Irene, through our cousin Ernest and Nancy Livingston.  And although we only shared a few occasions with them, they were joyous occasions, especially interacting with Felix.  Felix had an opinion or something to say about “Anything and Everything”.  No matter what the subject, i.e., life, social, political, community, nationality, etc., Felix was a talking know-it-all, which humored and drew us to be around him.  Bonita’s interaction with Irene, was always pleasant and fun, as she experienced a good-natured person she could relate to.  On the other hand, after Bonita got to know Felix, she was in a state of comic disbelief and wonderment as to how Irene was able to endure a comedian.  It was at Nancy’s 60th surprise birthday party when Felix had us both laughing through the night.
Felix’s passing comes at a time when we’re all just starting to enjoy and look forward to our golden years.  Our hearts and sympathy go out to Irene and the Rivera family.  We can’t imagine the loss you’re suffering, but we’re thankful that we got to know Felix and the Rivera family.  We pray you’ll find comfort and reassurance in God’s word the bible, which promises a time when we will see Felix and all our loved ones again in paradise.  We offer the following scriptures:
John 11:25: “Jesus said to her: I am the resurrection and the life.  The one who exercises faith in me, even though he dies, will come to life”;
John 5:28-29: “Do not be amazed at this, for the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out, those who did good things to a resurrection of life, and those who practiced vile things to a resurrection of judgment”;

I just found out about my Freind “Felix” I am speechless never knew he was ill . I worked at the Heavy weight truck repair shop in Elizabeth and he would come in time  to time and always had a good spirit way about himself I had to give him a jump start on day he had this HUGE CB set up in his truck that looked nuclear!  he cracked me up when I saw that unit boy he was something else . I’m gonna miss him I was glad to have known him and cross paths until we meet again Felix . God bless

Felix truly made a big impact on my children.  For two college kids to be sharing stories of their bus driver from elementary school means Felix was one of a kind! From calling my son’s name as he walked by the buses to the senior parking lot to waving hello to my daughter who was home on college break-he never forgot the kids who rode his bus! Our sincere condolences to Felix’s family.

I started working in Nanuet in 2009. Right away, I was assigned to Bus #1 with Felix. I rode with him for many years. Felix,( and his family) my heart is broken hearing of his passing. He was definitely loved by the parents and kids on his bus. May you rest in internal peace  my friend. You will be truly missed by all. 🙏🏼🕊🌹

Felix, you probably never fully understood the impact you had on all of the kids lives you touched. My kids couldn’t wait to ride the bus to and from school because they knew you were driving them. You were always kind, happy and smiling. You made all the kids feel comfortable and in turn you made the parents feel comfortable and at ease that their children were safe with you. Felix was my bus driver for almost all my time in the  Nanuet School District and I am so sorry to hear that he passed. He was endlessly kind and always had a joke ready for your fist-bump or high-five getting on and off the bus. A stand-out memory with him would be when he handed out Marvel figurines to the entire bus after school. I got a Sugar Man figure and my sister got Elektra. My sincerest condolences go out to his loved ones, he will be greatly missed.

Uncle Felix got this little turtle for Leon during the Rivera’s trip to Wildwood the summer they found out we were expecting. The story goes that just like Uncle Felix, he wanted to get the biggest turtle he could find but after much convincing from Titi Irene, he settled for this one! This small gesture was enough to tell us how excited he was for the new addition to the family and it came with a promise to bring Leon into the Wildwood tradition. Though we didn’t get the chance to make it happen, this turtle in a way makes us feel like we were there, because he carried us in his heart when he got it. And when we finally go he’ll be there too because we’ll carry him in ours 💙

To Felix’s family, my deepest & sincere condolences. Felix was more than just my FedEx Mentor, a fellow cancer brother & a teacher, he was a big brother. I still can’t believe it, even after FedEx we still kept in contact like we saw eachother yesterday. His spirit is always strong, his love will always be felt, and he will be severely missed. I will always remember and cherish Felix as a bright personality. I could talk to him about anything and seeing the joy he had when he spoke will always be with me. Felix always had a grand ole smile every time he strolled into rite aid. He never was in a bad mood and always found time to engage in friendly banter with the staff. Felix had a kind word or a smile for our three children, and all the children,  every day they rode the bus.  If we were lucky enough to run into him in public,  we were all happy to see him. My heart hurts so much for Irene and Jason. My heart hurts that Felix is gone. Felix was full of life with a great laugh and a cheesy smile. He was more than a brother in law he really was a brother. I’m going to miss watching movies with you and running quick errands. It’s what we did. Thank you for being there for me. Thank you for being an amazing husband to Irene. Thank you for being a great father to Jason and Michael. Thank you for being the best uncle to the clan. We are already missing you.  I promise I will look out for Jay and Irene.
