Helen was born in the Bronx, NY on April 25, 1934 to John and Bridget Gallagher. She graduated from Cathedral High School. Helen married the love of her life, Thomas Patrick Kelly, and eventually moved to New City where they raised their eight children with love and devotion.
If raising eight children was not enough, Helen went back to school to become a Licensed Practical Nurse where she cared for many at Summit Park Hospital in Pomona.
Helen was happiest spending time with Tom traveling near and far to soccer games, “feeding an army”, tending to her flowers, enjoying the Aruba beaches, dancing in the kitchen, and doting on her grandchildren. She found solace in her Catholic faith and praying the Rosary. She will be sorely missed and forever in our hearts.
Helen is survived by her sons, Edward, John, Thomas (Barbara), Neil (Stacey), Michael (Deirdre), Danny, and Christopher (Kelly Ann) and her only daughter Jacqueline (Kevin), her grandchildren who will profoundly miss their Nanny: Michael, Patti, Taylor, Corinne, Caroline, Peyton, Brady, Lyla, Alexis, Julianne, Keegan, Cavan, and Jesse. Helen is also survived by her brother Francis Gallagher (Barbara) and her sister, Nora, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Helen is predeceased by her loving husband of 41 years, Thomas and her brothers John, James, Raymond, and Patrick, and her dear sister, Winifred O’Brien. Oh, they will rejoice!
The Kelly Family is extremely grateful to those who provided great care to Helen during her illness, Eva, Maggie, Niamh, Anastasia, and Norah, as well as the nurses of United Hospice. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to United Hospice in Helen’s name.
There will be a wake at Higgins Funeral Home, Main Street, New City, on Monday, November 29th from 3:00 – 7:00pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Francis of Assisi Church, Parrott Road, West Nyack, NY on Tuesday, November 30th at 10:00am. Internment to follow at St. Anthony’s Cemetery.
