James Donohue, 80, a 47 year resident of Stony Point, NY, passed away peacefully on April 18th, 2019, after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s. James was born March 8th, 1939 to Ena Darby of County Westmeath & Patrick Donohue of County Sligo. James grew up on E.97th St., Manhattan. James was a U.S. Army Veteran and worked for many years as a machinist in the film industry.
James is predeceased by his sons, Sean & Kevin, and his brother Jack. He is survived by his loving wife Maureen (O’Connor) Donohue, his sister Mary Donnelly of Sayville, his daughters: Kerryanne Garvey of West Nyack, NY, and Dee Kaplanidis (Dean) of Pearl River, NY., his sons: Jimmy of Stony Point, NY, Brian (Nancy) of Stony Point, NY., and son-in-law Lawrence Garvey of New City, NY.
James will be remembered for his kindness, his sense of humor, and his overwhelming love for his family. James married the love of his life, Maureen, on October 5th, 1963, in St. Francis De Sales, together, they spent 55 wonderful years. One of the greatest joys of his life was spending time with his 13 grandchildren, Kyle Donohue, Meghan Garvey, Devon Donohue, Tara Garvey, Connor Donohue, Austin Donohue, Ryan Donohue, Elizabeth Garvey, Dylan Donohue, Lauren Garvey, Sean Kaplanidis, Amanda Donohue, and Kevin Kaplanidis.
The family will receive friends and relatives on Monday, April 22nd from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at Michael J. Higgins Funeral Home: 73 N. Liberty Dr., Stony Point, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Tuesday, April 23rd at 10 AM at Immaculate Conception Church: 26 John St., Stony Point, NY, with Internment to follow at Gate of Heaven cemetery: 10 W. Stevens, Ave, Hawthorne, NY.
