James (Jim) Monroe of New City passed away on January 15, 2019 after a courageous battle with esophageal cancer. He was born on December 22, 1952 to George and Patricia (Kennedy) Reers who predeceased him. His loving sister Mary Jane Coleman also predeceased him. Jim is survived by his beloved wife Peggy (Margaret), cherished son Christopher, and faithful companion Molly Mae. Also surviving Jim are his brother Richard and sister-in-law Mickey Reers of Ft. Myers, Florida, brother-in-law William (Bill) Coleman of New City, Brother Robert and sister-in-law Rita Reers of Pearl River, and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Charlie and Anne Chapin, Tony and Jean Donatelli, and John and Claire Crane, all of Connecticut. Many nieces and nephews who loved spending time with their uncle also survive him. Jim often “played Santa” at family gathering to the delight of his nieces and nephews, but it wasn’t until years later that they realized it was Uncle Jim all along.
Jim was known to never go anywhere without his Nikon camera and video camera. Photos and videos of events big and small will live forever be in his friends and families memories because of Jim’s generosity to others. Professionally Jim also created special memories for others through his company Act One Video Productions and Chiaro Films. He also enjoyed sharing his knowledge with his students while teaching at Rockland Community College. Jim was an accomplished musician and producer who early in his career built and operated a recording studio, and was a prolific and talented writer of short stories, plays, and poems. Most of all, Jim was a man who was always there to help anyone at any time. He will be greatly missed by his friends and family.
