

He left us at the HMH Hackensack University Medical Center in Hackensack,New Jersey surrounded by his family.
Born on December 4, 1935 in Budapest, Hungary to Jozsef (Joseph) and Erzsebet (Elizabeth)Sipos. Joseph (“Joe”) was the middle son of three children and was proud of his service in the Hungarian Army. He escaped during the Hungarian Revolution / Soviet Invasion in 1956 with his sister Erzsebet (Elizabeth) and her future husband Mihály (Michael) Lukacs through Vienna, Austria and eventually made it to the U.S. They were sponsored in the U.S. by Mary and Arthur Nichols and settled at their home in Waltham MA. He soon found work at the Nichols family owned machine shop company.
Joe was a dignified veteran of the U.S. Army. Upon his honorable discharge, he met his beloved wife Millie at a dance in Scarsdale,New York and they married on September 2, 1967. They lived in the Bronx, New York; Meriden, Connecticut, Bridgeport Connecticut and eventually moved to Rockland County, New York. Together, they raised two children: Joseph and Steven.We are forever grateful that he moved into Brightview’s Senior Independent Living community in 2020 where he was affectionately known as “The Mayor of Brightview.” He continued to smile,spread positive vibes and happiness to all of the cherished residents and staff. His many great friends share our broken hearts and experienced what a special man he was.
A devoted Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother, Father in-law, Uncle, Son and Friend. Joe was a Manager of Manufacturing Engineering at Chromalloy in Orangeburg, New York for 37 years. He cherished the many lasting relationships throughout his employment and continued to stay in touch with his friends after he retired. At his core, Joe was selfless, generous and always willing to help which is why he mentored many during his time at Chromalloy.
Joe loved to work with his hands and figure things out. He was motivated, determined,organized, super detailed and patient. These qualities led him to be a mechanically gifted, skilled craftsman, the ultimate handyman who could fix anything and so much more.
Joe is predeceased by his beloved wife Millie and his sister Margit. He is survived by his children Joseph (Jennifer), Steven (Colleen) and sister Erzsebet (Elizabeth) Lukacs. Leaving behind 3 grandchildren: Eva, Alexa and Olivia, as well as nieces, nephews and extended family members. He was proud of, adored and loved his family more than anything.
Joe (Dad) exemplified toughness and resiliency in every way throughout his life journey. Known for overcoming every obstacle that was presented to him. He always shared his philosophical quotes with his family and friends. One of his many quotes was, “Do what needs to be done.”Thank you Dad, we love you. May you be at peace and rest easy.
A visitation for Joseph will be held Sunday, February 2, 2025 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Michael J. Higgins Funeral Service Inc., 321 South Main Street, New City, NY 10956. A mass will occur Monday, February 3, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at St. Augustine's Church, 118 S Main St, New City, NY 10956. A burial will occur Monday, February 3, 2025 from 11:15 AM to 11:30 AM at Ascension Cemetery, 650 Saddle River Rd, Airmont, NY 10952.
