Born and raised in Mount Vernon, New York, Mary touched many with her kindness and generosity. Mary was the cherished daughter of Joseph and Mary Arcuri and the beloved sister of Leonard, John, Dominic, Frank, Phillip, and Fred. Growing up in a large family, Mary was nurtured with love and support, and from an early age, she
revealed her inner strength, compassion, and open-mindedness. Mary cultivated these qualities and they came to shape her life.
Significantly, Mary is lovingly remembered by her five children and their families. Kathy (the late Reed), Lorrie (Paul), James (Regina), Michael (Clare), and William (Kathleen) all surrounded her in her final days. One of Mary’s proudest accomplishments was
raising her five children single-handedly. Despite the adversity and hardship, Mary created a home filled with love, laughter and tradition and she instilled in each of her children the qualities of care and affection.
A fiercely independent woman, Mary was ahead of her time. She lived a life marked by curiosity and hard work. She was always open to new experiences and adventure. She traveled the world extensively and was recruited at an early age for roller derby. She
also built a successful career with New York Telephone Co./NYNEX. She took great pride in her work and entertained her family with colorful stories of her dedication and professionalism, whether she was working long hours overcoming various service outages or passing long hours on the picket line.
Mary inspired her daughters with her independent spirit, and she taught her sons to be thoughtful, engaged partners who shared equally in all of life's responsibilities. Her greatest joy by far was her amazing grandchildren, Mathew, the late Nicolas, Ariana
(Paul), Samantha, Addison, and great granddaughter Solace Rose, who were the light of her life and enjoyed her endless love and devotion.
In retirement, Mary made a home in Pearl River, New York, where she remained active and deeply involved in her community. She was a proud member of the B-Club and generously gave of her time through the Meals-on-Wheels senior organizations, continuing her commitment to service. A lifelong New York Yankees fan, Mary rarely missed an opportunity to cheer on her beloved team.
Mary is survived by many loving relatives and good friends. She will be sorely missed, but her legacy lives on in the hearts of all she touched.
