

She is survived by her three children, Frank Joseph Jr. Taromina of New City, NY, Michael Taromina of New City, NY and Marie Rettberg (son-in-law Robert), of Goshen, NY. Mary is also survived by her beloved grandchildren, Kelly, Joseph and Jacqueline Rettberg of Goshen, NY.
Born in Brooklyn on April 1, 1934, Mary was the beloved daughter of Ignazio and Frances Valenti. Mary had two older brothers, Fred and Rosario that she loved dearly and grew up with. She also grew up in a very close-knit family which included many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Mary met the love of her life, Frank, at age 16 in the summer of 1950 at Coney Island Beach. She married Frank Taromina on July 2, 1955. They had three beautiful children, Frank Joseph Jr, Michael and Marie. Mary became a stay-at-home mother after the birth of her first-born child, Frank. She was the backbone of the family and a very devoted mother.
November 1972, Mary and her family moved from Brooklyn to New City, NY. Mary secretly learned how to drive a car before making the move, surprising her husband with the big news.
Mary’s home was always warm and welcoming to all and filled with love and delicious home cooked meals. She loved having company and enjoyed entertaining and spending time with her family and friends.
Holidays were always celebrated at home with loving grandparents, uncles, aunts and cousins. There was an abundance of love, food, jokes and laughter.
After her beloved husband, Frank, passed away on Oct. 2, 1993, Mary decided to join several senior clubs. She enjoyed spending time with her friends and went on several trips with them. Mary also was a parishioner of the St. Francis of Assisi Church for over 50 years.
Mary loved and cherished her family, especially her grandchildren. They brought her so much joy and pride and was the sparkle in her life.
A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, July 13 at Michael Higgins Funeral Home in New City, NY from 2-6 pm. A funeral mass will be held on Monday, July 14 at St. Francis of Assisi Church in West Nyack, NY at 10 am. Burial will be at St. Anthony Church in Nanuet, NY.
