Born in the Bronx, NY to Gladys and Frank Richter, Millie was the oldest of three. She was predeceased by her brother Robert Richter and her sister Frances Macioce. Millie grew up on Valley Stream NY and attended Holy Name of Mary grammar school and Woodmere High School.
A trailblazer in her day, Millie was the first in her family to attend college and was among the early graduating classes of Seton Hill University, an all-female Catholic institution rooted in the traditions of the Sisters of Charity. There, she developed a lifelong love of languages and formed lasting friendships. Her stories of college days—full of parties and showing her zest for life—remained among her favorite memories.
In 1950, she married her late husband, Marco F. Pietrangelo. Together they built a happy family life grounded in devotion to family, faith, and fun. They raised six children in their home in Yonkers, NY, where Millie lived independently until the age of 94. She is survived by her six children Marco Pietrangelo of Boca Raton Florida, Paul (and Janet) Pietrangelo if Cortlandt Manor NY, John (and Debra) Pietrangelo of Queensbury NY, James (and Carolyn) Pietrangelo of New City NY, Ann Marie (and Richard) Whitney of College Grove TN, and Joanne (and Frank) O' Leary of Denville NJ.
She is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
Summers at Hilltop Pool in Yonkers were among the family’s most treasured times. There, Millie and Marco played bridge, formed special friendships, and created a world of joy for their children. Swim team, teen nights, and lifeguard duty are among some of her children’s happiest childhood memories.
Millie was deeply committed to volunteerism. A devoted parishioner of Christ the King Church in Yonkers, she served as a lector, Eucharistic minister, and active member of the Rosary Altar Society, deepening her devotion to Mary and the rosary. She was equally involved at Christ the King School, where she volunteered for over 20 years—supporting fundraisers and events, teaching and tutoring Spanish, and founding the school’s bowling league, an enjoyable part of her children’s upbringing. At Hilltop, she was a constant presence, supporting the swim team and organizing popular games for kids.
Above all, Millie’s life was defined by her love of family. She took immense pride in their closeness, always seeming to see the positive— so proud of the get-togethers, parties and trips we all enjoyed together. She adored her six children, fourteen grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren, and had a special place in her heart for her nieces and nephews.
In her later years, her greatest joy was simple—spending hours looking through photos of the family she cherished so deeply.
