

Oliver “BILL” Thompson passed away peacefully with his family by his side on May 19, 2025. He was born on July 25, 1934, in Bronx, New York to Frances Ackerman and Oliver A.
Thompson. Bill married the love of his life, Mary Lou Robertson Thompson on October 11, 1958, at St. John’s Kingsbridge Church. Together, they raised their family in Kingsbridge, Bronx, where they were active in the parish productions and the church choir. He was a lifelong, die hard fan of the New York Giants, Rangers and Mets. Bill worked as an Auto Electrician for DSNY where he was also known as the garage cook. Bill and Mary Lou eventually retired to their summer home in Dingman’s Ferry, PA, where he built his outdoor trains. His beautiful train display was featured as a last stop on the Pocono Mountains Homes Tour.
Bill was predeceased by his wife in 2001. He is survived by his 4 children, MaryLou DeMaio (Greg) of Bardonia, NY, Peggy McGuinness (Ed) of Spring Lake, NJ, Patricia Dunbar (Kevin) of West Nyack, NY and William Thompson of New City, NY. He was Papa to 10 grandchildren, Eddie McGuinness, Gregory DeMaio, Kevin Dunbar, Kelly Nadoraski, Shannon Doran, Paige McDermott, Billy Thompson, Patrick Dunbar, Lauren Thompson and Casey Dunbar. He was lovingly called Papa-Pa and Choo-Choo Papa by his 9 great-grandchildren. The Thompson family is forever grateful for the loving care our father received at Sunrise Senior Living of New City, where he continued to craft wooden bird houses and toy vehicles at his work table.
A private burial is planned with family. A celebration of his life will be held at the Pearl River Elks Lodge on Friday, June 6, 1:00-5:00. 2041 Elks Drive, Nanuet, NY 10954. All are welcome to join the family to celebrate a life well lived.
