Oscar Konlian passed away peacefully at sunset on November 16th, 2023, surrounded by his loving children at the age of 90. He was born November 9th, 1933, in Manhattan, NY to Armenian immigrants, Murgerdich and Satenig Konlian. He was raised in the Bronx with his sister Virginia. At the age of 20, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served active duty from 1954-1956. This gave him the opportunity to travel and see the world.
He married the love of his life Mariam Markarian on June 9th 1962. He chased after her while befriending her mother who was a wonderful cook, only to find out after getting married that Mariam did not know how to cook. But that did not matter because he loved her so much.
After living in the Bronx, the family moved to New City in 1970. He worked countless hours as a mechanical engineer drafting military equipment by hand. He worked at United Technologies for over 20
years. He raised and deeply loved his four children, Dr. Donna Konlian (son-in-law Gregg), Dr. Stephen Konlian (daugher-in-law Cara), Lisa Leoce (son-in-law Joe), and Christopher Konlian (daugher-in-law Stacy). He also raised 2 fur babies, Pasha and Sasha.
He was blessed with 11 grandchildren (Colin, Nicholas, Tyler, Danielle, Kaitlyn, Sabrina, Brandon, Jordyn, Lindsay, Gabrielle, and Alexander). He showered them with all types of love which anybody who knew him understands. The more he loved, the more he showed it - no matter the method.
Oscar enjoyed the beach. His early love started at Rockaway Beach as a young boy. He then upgraded to Sint Maarten and Puerto Rico where many fond memories were made with family. He especially enjoyed traveling with his cousins (Dr. Sarkis Kechejian and the late Dr. Nishan Kechejian) who were like brothers to him. He also took trips to Atlantic City where he enjoyed playing cards and craps. He loved betting on football games with his sons, son-in-law Joe, and friends. He was a lifelong Yankee fan and a fan of any team playing against the Jets.
Oscar had friends all over the New City community. His big presence, laugh and beautiful smile will be deeply missed.
