November 4th, 1956- November 15, 2019
Peggy Lynne Bassett, 63, a life long resident of New City NY passed away unexpectedly on November 15, 2019. Peggy was born on November 4th 1956 in Nyack, NY to the late Edison and Catherine Bassett. She is survived by her sister Cathy and her husband Ernest Elliott, sister-in-law Sandy Story and her husband Lynn, their son Pat, his wife Jenna and their two children, brother-in-law Larry Elliott and his wife CJ Lori.
Peggy attended Clarkstown High School and Atlanta School of Design receiving her Bachelor of Arts degree in 1979 . After graduating she worked in fashion design and textiles in New York City enjoying the creative side of the industry. The desire to care for others led Peggy to return to college to pursue a BA in nursing, which she received from Rockland Community College of Nursing.
Peggy began her nursing career in pediatrics at Westchester Medical Center where she loved taking care of “the little ones”. Several years ago she joined Mount Pleasant Cottage School as a school nurse where she had the opportunity to care for a wider age range of children. Her focus through out her nursing career has been on improving the life and health of children. At Mount Pleasant Cottage School she enjoyed decorating her office to meet the season or holiday, having children come in and say “nurse Peg I love your office,” providing her the opportunity to not only talk about the decorations but how a child was feeling.
She fulfilled her love of design with a life long hobby of creating and producing custom designed clothing for family and friends. Other hobbies included cooking, the more difficult the recipe the better, a love of traditional antique furniture design and traveling. Trips to Europe, Egypt, Australia and New Zealand were highlights of her life, where she met and traveled with friends from Australia and Tasmania. In recent years spending time in Boston or Cape Cod with family and friends brought her great joy.
Peg will be greatly missed and always loved by all she touched.
Visitation will be Saturday, November 23, 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM at Higgins Funeral Service , 321 South Main Street, New City, NY 10956.
