After a long and full life of love, family and service to his community as a volunteer firefighter, Robert Patrick Lacy departed this earth on Monday, October 11th, 2021, surrounded by his loving family and his favorite cat, Princess. The second son of an Irish immigrant father, Francis Joseph Lacy, and first-generation Irish mother, Catherine Josetta Rowan, Bob was born in the Bronx, New York in 1935. He was 86 years old.
Bob was faithfully devoted to his wife, Ann, and their marriage was an inspiration to everyone who knew them. Throughout their 61-year marriage, Ann and Bob enjoyed trips to The Poconos and cruises up and down the East Coast with close friends and family.
Beginning his 45+ year career at the dawn of the corporate computing age, Bob was a Systems Analyst and IT Manager for companies such as Scholastic Magazine, Coleco, Western Union, and Avis. He was also deeply devoted to his volunteer firefighter brothers and sisters at Nanuet Fire Engine Company #1, where he was a 52 year Life Member, serving 22 years as Treasurer and one year as President. As Treasurer, Bob was awarded the Stanley G. Brooker Memorial Award for being an integral part of overseeing the acquisition of bonds and fundraising efforts which resulted in the construction of Nanuet’s newest firehouse facility. He was always proud to serve his community, selflessly answering the call to duty no matter when it came.
While maintaining his strong work and volunteer ethic, he somehow managed to always be home for dinner with his wife and four children whom he loved with boundless affection. Bob was known amongst family and friends as a sincere, funny, fair, caring and empathetic hero who delivered an endless supply of eye-roll-inducing puns and Dad jokes. Bob’s seemingly effortless ability to put himself in his neighbor’s shoes highlighted his incredible capacity for empathy and formed the foundation of his desire to help whenever he heard about someone in need. Fittingly, Bob received extremely compassionate care from his aides, and friends to the end, Jennifer and Rose.
His beloved New York Yankees were a source of great joy and occasional frustration, especially this year :(
Whether they called him Dad, Grandpa, Great Grandpa, brother, fellow firefighter, co-worker or friend, Bob will be dearly missed by everyone who knew him and were fortunate enough to have ever shared his company.
Bob is predeceased by his parents and his eternal dancing partner and love of his life, Ann. He is survived by his children, Michael Lacy and his wife, Kathleen Lacy, Dennis Lacy and his wife, Susan Smaldone, Kathleen Stanton and her husband, William Stanton, Kevin Lacy and his wife, Marla Lacy; grandchildren, Megan Smit and her husband, Jeremy Smit, Kara Lacy, Sean Lacy and his wife, Joanna Lacy, Ryan Lacy and his wife Katie Lacy, Morgan Lacy and her fiancé, Michael Adams, Derek Stanton, and Corrie Smaldone; great-grandchildren, Mason Smit, Emily Smit, Rhea Lacy, Jacklyn Struble and Aris Lacy; brother, Frank Lacy, Jr.; sister-in-law, Carol Stephens; sister-in-law, Concetta Adleman; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
