Ruth was born on October 10, 1931 to the late Dorothy and James Gallagher. She spent her childhood in Nanuet, New York, growing up with her sisters, Arlene and Carol. Ruth graduated from Pearl River High School.
She fell in love with the kindest man, Tony, and they were happily married for over 62 years. They were blessed to have and to raise two loving daughters, Janet and Ellen. Together the family made cherished memories.
Ruth retired from the Bank of New York in 1986 after many dedicated years so that she could spend time with her grandchildren, Jeffrey, T.J., and Emily. She loved to travel and volunteer. Some of her favorite memories include taking numerous young Girl Scouts camping, boating the Amazon River, cruising the waters of Europe, and spending summers at Seaside Park, New Jersey.
Ruth was a faithful believer in Christ. She was a member of New City’s St. Paul Lutheran Church for over 60 years where she served as a Sunday school teacher, council member, and boutique helper. For many years, Ruth led the church’s Braille Worker Program. Every month stacks of books for the blind and visually impaired were sent around the globe to share the message of Jesus Christ. She was also an active member with The Haverstraw Elks Ladies Club.
She was truly a treasure that will be missed to all that knew her. At 89-years-old, many people that she loved had already passed including her husband, Anthony Cemeno. She is survived by her daughters: Janet Putnam (Skip) and Ellen Smith (Tom); grandchildren: Jeffrey Putnam (Kathryn), T.J. Smith (Christine), and Emily Smith (Keith). Her sisters, Arlene Fisher and Carol Webster and many loving nieces and nephews.
