My heart is heavy to receive word that Sean had passed. I enjoyed working with him at Travelers for my last several years. He had the most informative and interesting stories to tell.  All my best wishes to the family.

My deepest condolences on the loss of such a amazing man. I had the pleasure of working with Sean at Travelers for 20 yrs.  Each time his name popped up on my phone, he would have a story to tell before getting to the real reason why he called, which was work.  Sean always had a story to tell, from lawnmowers & snowblowers to life in general & I always took the time to listen,

We became close friends fairly quickly.  Even my family knew of Sean as I would always shared the stories & history lessons.  If they hadn’t heard me speak about Sean in a while, they would ask, how Sean is doing. It was great.  

One great thing about Sean was if you were having a bad day, he would always make you smile.  I would joke about he being the same age as my dad and how I felt bad when I said a bad word around him.  He would always say “If you knew how many bad words I say in a day….”  I would laugh.  

One memory I will always carry with me was when my husband passed away, during Covid, at the young age of 51, Sean was one of the first to call to offer condolences.  I began to cry and he told me he didn’t have the words to comfort me so he just listened.  Then he said, “You wanted to spend the rest of your life with him, but have comfort in knowing he spent the rest of his with you”, & I understood. 

The last four yrs, I had the privilege of working with him on the same team.  I learned so much .  Anytime I called with what I presumed to be a dumb question, I always learn something new.  He was always willing to assist.  

When Sean retired, sadness filled my heart.  I called him the morning after &  asked “Hey how does it feel to not have to open the laptop anymore?”  & he said “amazing but I’m sitting here with nothing to do now”. We spoke for a while & then we said our goodbyes with the good old fashion “tootles”.  

Thank you Kiernan family for sharing Sean with us.  He will be miss ❤️ Rest in peace my friend.

I’m Dave DiBiase. I lived in Los Angeles and practiced law. I met and did business with Sean on legal cases but quickly saw him more as a friend than a client. I spent a lot of time in Utah (where I now live) and Sean loved telling me of his treks to Utah national parks- Zion, Bryce Canyon and (I think) Arches.  He beamed when he would talk about those trips. 
I’m not surprised to hear about his interest in his Irish ancestry…..the Irish in him showed up in his ever present smile.
What a nice, gentle man.

I was a scout from 2007-2012, earned my Eagle rank under his guidance. Sean was an amazing leader, spending almost every week helping new scouts and veterans alike, long after his own children had graduated and moved on. Every trip with him was a pleasure, and it has been a privilege to spend time with him in nature among friends. I miss those days dearly. We love you Mr. Kiernan.

I’m sad to hear of Sean’s passing!  Although we worked in different  states , Sean and I had many enjoyable conversations during our years working at Travelers!  My sincere condolences to all the family!

I am very sorry to hear of Sean’s death. I first met him as a client in 1990, and as a colleague in 2022. 

We had many professional adventures together, from a mediation in Newark before a knuckle crushing judicial officer, to co-surety meetings with a number of parties and a bewildering array of shifting alliances; and snippets connected to the spectacular collapse of a major public works contractor. 

Consistently and unfailingly, Sean was unflappable; astute; observant; and never losing sight of why he was in a particular situation; who he represented; and what he hoped to accomplish. 

But it was out of the conference room or court room that Sean shone- the lasting impression I have is of a man who was kind, calm, thoughtful, and very, very funny. With his wry sense of humor and vast warehouse of experiences, Sean never,  ever went through the motions of life, but lived the moment richly, or relived the memory of the absurd perfectly. 

He was generous in the time he gave to me and to other colleagues; teaching us to look at baffling things simply.  He was a good man and a good friend.

I worked with Sean for only a short period of time, but he left such a large impression.  I’m so sorry to hear of his passing.  He always had the best stories, whether about his remarkable journey in the industry or his vivid memories of New York, and every conversation left you smiling or walking away having learned something new.  He was an amazing man — warm, sharp, and unforgettable — and he will truly be missed. My deepest condolences to his family, friends, and all who loved him.

We were much saddened to learn of Sean J's sudden passing.  We hold happy memories of his visiting us in Co Cavan, retracing his past known ancestors.   Our sincere sympathy to Betty, Sean Jr., Shannon , Siobhan, Maripat and to all the the extended family members.  Mass celebrated this morning at St. Bridgid's, Kilsherdany, Cavan was offered towards the happy repose of his soul.  May Sean J. rest in peace
