Brian Anthony Breaux, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 23, 2025, at the age of 71. His life was one of remarkable kindness, resilience, and love, and he leaves behind a legacy that will forever touch the hearts of all who knew him.
Born in San Diego, CA, to the late Ray James and Polly Freyou Breaux, Brian was a long-time resident of New Iberia. His spirit shone brightly from an early age, captivating everyone around him. A proud 1972 graduate of Catholic High, Brian’s athleticism was evident through his passion for track and field, where he achieved a State title—a feat that marked the beginning of a lifetime of personal and professional accomplishments.
A fun-loving and loyal friend, Brian and his 1972 classmates formed the legendary "James Gang," a tight-knit group that remained close throughout the years. The bond they shared was celebrated with a memorable boucherie, an event that epitomized their lifelong friendship and the joy of living life to the fullest.
In addition to his athletic talents, Brian pursued an associate degree in electrical engineering, leading him to a distinguished 40-year career with EP Breaux Electrical. His work ethic was unparalleled as he rose through the ranks to become an Electrical Superintendent. Known for his dedication, skill, and reliability, Brian earned the respect of his colleagues and the admiration of his peers.
Music was another cornerstone of his life. His passion for music was contagious, and he shared his talent with others for decades. He enjoyed being a part of the Pirogue Playboy’s or as he referred to it as the Wheelchair Band, offering his musical gifts to nursing homes and spreading joy wherever he went. He was also an active member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church Choir for over twenty years with devotion and faith.
Brian’s resilience was truly inspiring. After receiving a life-saving liver transplant, his strength and perseverance never wavered. He faced challenges with patience and grace, always putting the needs of others before his own. His kindness and generosity were unmatched. Whether it was giving the shirt off his back to someone in need or offering a warm smile.
To his grandchildren, he was a patient and loving figure. He adored spending time with them, creating cherished memories that will live on forever. His legendary “best fried egg sandwich” became a beloved family tradition, enjoyed by his children, grandchildren, friends, and his wife’s coworker alike.
Brian was also deeply committed to his faith. A member of the Adoration Group at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, he attended every Thursday at 12 Noon without fail. His faith and love for God were guiding lights in his life, and he found peace in serving others through his music and volunteer work.
Brian’s love for his family was the heart of who he was. His devotion to his wife, children, and grandchildren will never be forgotten. His strength, love, and unwavering support will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Those left behind to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 37 years, Kay Buteau Breaux; his children, Cy Leslie Breaux and Sasha; Charles Travis Reel and Jessica Rae Breaux Cooper and Robert; four grandchildren, Richard Cash Cooper, Maksim James Breaux, Coleson Browning and Sophia Rae Cooper; two brothers, Marcel Breaux and Kim and Rene James Breaux; mother in law, Elizabeth Anderson; sister in law, Lindsey Dugas and Dwayne and Emily Buteau and brother in laws, Rocky Buteau and Michelle; Randy Buteau and Ann; Troy Buteau and Cheryl and Bailey Buteau.
