

LOREAUVILLE – A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Claude M. “Nook” Dugas, 91, at 10:30 am Thursday, April 23, 2015 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Fr. Ed Degeyter will be the celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at Evangeline Funeral Home on Wednesday from 2:00 pm until 9:00 pm with the Rosary being recited at 6:30 pm. Visiting hours will resume on Thursday from 8:00 am until 10:00 am.
Mr. Dugas was born September 29, 1923 in Loreauville to the late Antoine Dugas, Sr. and Emma Broussard Dugas, and passed away peacefully Tuesday, April 21, 2015 at his residence, surrounded by his family.
Mr. Claude, known by family and friends as “Nook”, was a veteran of the United States Navy Seabees and proudly served his country during World War II. He retired from Exxon with 36 years of service and served as Past President of the Exxon L’acadian Annuitant Club. After his retirement, he worked with several caterers, and also at Evangeline Funeral Home with his wife.
Mr. Claude was a longtime and faithful parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church and served as a Eucharistic Minister, Lecter, and usher. He was the last living charter member of the Knights of Columbus Council 4676 and a 4th Degree Knight where he was the Past Faithful Navigator. Mr. Claude also volunteered his time and talent in the kitchen at St. Francis Diner.
He was devoted to the love and care of his family and cherished the time spent with them. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Nola Lecamus Dugas of Loreauville; his daughters, Claudette D. Thibodeaux and husband Barry, and Suzette D. Hebert and husband Gayle James all of New Iberia, and Lori D. Barras and husband Steve of Loreauville; 8 grandchidren, Michelle Senette and husband Wesley, Cody Thibodeaux, Leah Thibodeaux, Dean Hebert and wife Brenda, William “Mickey” Hebert, Garrett Barras, Alyssa Barras, Stefani Barras; 3 great grandchildren, Tayla Landry and husband Derek, Hunter Senette, Kinley Senette; 2 great great grandchildren, Parker and Sawyer Landry; his brothers, Tan Dugas and wife Dena and Creed Dugas and wife Marion; a sister-in-law, Grace Fridley; a brother-in-law, Leroy Lecamus; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Mabel Broussard and Melba Verret; and his in-laws, Husville and Amelie Lecamus.
Serving as pallbearers are Barry Thibodeaux, Gayle Hebert, Steve Barras, Cody Thibodeaux, Wesley Senette and Garrett Barras. Honorary pallbearers are Michelle Senette, Leah Thibodeaux, Mickey and Dean Hebert, Alyssa and Stefani Barras, Hunter and Kinley Senette, and Tan and Creed Dugas.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Claudes name to St. Joseph Catholic Church Completion Fund or to the St. Francis Diner.
