NEW IBERIA – A Mass of Christian Burial was conducted for Delta Hulin Sapienza, age 92, at 10:00 am on Thursday, September 10, 2020 at Nativity of our Lady Catholic Church with Fr. Ed Degeyter officiating. Interment followed at the church mausoleum.
The visitation took place on Thursday from 9:00 am until the service time. A Rosary was prayed by members of the family at 9:30 am
A native of New Iberia and resident of Maurice, Delta passed away peacefully in the early morning hours on Tuesday, September 8, 2020 at Pelican Pointe Healthcare and Rehabilitation in Maurice, LA.
Delta was a kind and caring woman who adored her family. She was so very proud of each of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Delta loved spending time with them and doting on them. She was a deeply religious person and loved serving the Lord. Delta help to start her own rosary group, Our Lady of the Holy Rosary, in 1986. She also enjoyed doing crafts, needlework, sewing, cooking, baking, and line dancing. She will be truly and deeply missed by all those who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her; four sons, Francis A. Sapienza Jr and wife Rhonda, of Dallas, TX, Thomas V. Sapienza and wife Tina, Paul R. Sapienza and wife Carla, all of New Iberia, and John S. Sapienza of Lafayette; one daughter, Connie S. Armentor and husband Richard of New Iberia; 14 grandchildren; and 9 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Francis Sapienza, Sr.; parents, Joseph and Dedica Romero Hulin; and brothers and sister.
Pallbearers were Jason Armentor, Nick Sapienza, Anthony Sapienza, Sammy Sapienza, Thomas Sapienza, Jr., Charles Sapienza, and Nathan Guillory.
Honorary pallbearers were Delta’s sons.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the staffs of Gardenview Assisted Living of New Iberia, Pelican Pointe, and Grace Hospice for their loving care and kindness towards Mrs. Sapienza.
