

LOREAUVILLE – A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted for Mrs. Sandy Oubre, the former Edith Gibbons, age 101, at 11:00 am Tuesday, December 29, 2015 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Fr. Buddy Breaux officiating. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 2:30 pm until 9:00 pm on Monday with a Rosary at 7:00 pm. The funeral home will reopen at 8:00 am on Tuesday until service time.
Mrs. Oubre passed away on Saturday, December 26, 2015 at her residence.
Edith was born on November 15, 1914, in Pollock, LA to John and Ethel Thompson Gibbons. She was one of five children. She spent the majority of her life as a resident of Loreauville, LA. Edith was a woman of many passions, including cards, cooking, and football; but her greatest love was her family. She was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
For many years, Edith worked alongside her husband of sixty-three years, Sandy Oubre, by helping to train Future Farmers of America students with their public speaking skills.
Edith was also an amazing cook. She was featured in many newspaper articles showcasing her cooking and baking including her famous lemon pie. Another of her passions was Bourée. In 1983, she beat over a hundred players to win the Catholic High Bourée Championship. She continued playing cards, cooking, driving, and cheering on the LSU Tigers and New Orleans Saints until her final days. The Saints recognized that dedication by presenting to her a signed team ball on her 100th birthday.
She is survived by her five children; John Oubre and significant other Sandra Reed, Jerry Oubre and wife Sherdell, Mary Beth Oubre and significant other David Hixson, Timothy Oubre, and Lisa Livingston and husband Ty; twelve grandchildren, Tracy Thompson and husband Norm, Trenton Oubre and wife Meredith, Wendy Oubre-Granato and husband John, Tyler Oubre and wife Amber, David Oubre and wife Amanda, Michelle Gallagher and husband Matt, Stephen Oubre and wife Shea, Melissa Sharpe, Kristian Oubre and wife Shannon, Megan Egbert and husband Ryan, Jeremy Ackal, and Jennifer Ackal; and seventeen great grandchildren, Cortland Cicardo, John “J.T” Granato, Francesca “ Frankie” Granato, Trenton “T.J” Oubre, Grant Oubre, Ashley Oubre, Wes Oubre, Evan Oubre, Molly Oubre, Matthew Gallagher, Zachary Gallagher, Emily Oubre, Rachel Oubre, Noah Sharpe, Edith Jane Egbert, Brayden Ackal, and Franklyn Hockless.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Sandy Joseph Oubre; parents, John and Ethel Thompson Gibbons; two brothers, David Gibbons and J.W. Gibbons; two sisters, Nell Bennett and Betty Matticari; and one daughter-in-law, Bonnie Edler Oubre
Pallbearers will be Trenton Oubre, Tyler Oubre, David Oubre, Stephen Oubre, Kristian Oubre, and Jeremy Ackal.
