Gladys Prior Romero

NEW IBERIA – A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted for Mrs. Yves Romero, the former Gladys Prior, age 88, at 2:00 pm Saturday, January 11, 2014 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church with Fr. Charles Langlois officiating. Interment will follow at Beau Pre’ Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Visitation will be held from 12:00 Noon on Saturday until service time.

A native of England, and resident of New Iberia, Mrs. Romero passed away at 2:00 am on, Thursday, January 9, 2014.

Mrs. Romero was born and raised in East Molesey, London, England. She served as an Aerator Warden and a volunteer during WWII in England and moved to the United States at the age of 21. She was very proud of her heritage and remained loyal to her country. She loved to travel, was a great seamstress and a wonderful baker. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, whom will miss her dearly.

She is survived by her children, Jane Romero; Larry Romero and his wife Rochelle; Michael Romero and wife Liz; and Elizabeth Minvielle and husband Lynn all of New Iberia; Nancy R. Simar and husband Steven of St. Martinville, and Margaret R. Cornelius and husband Jeff of Hattiesburg, MS; eight grandchildren, Laura R. Chapman and husband Ryan, Heidi LeBlanc and husband Troy, Courtney Sanford and husband Stephen, Scott Romero and wife Raina, Sally Cornelius, Amanda Cornelius, Mikie Romero, Elliot Minvielle, Miles Minvielle, and Avery Kingman; sixteen great grandchildren and one due in February; and her sister-in-law, Lola Prior of England.

She was preceded in death by her husband Yves Romero; her parents, George and Eleanor Shyers Prior; three brothers, George, Arthur and John; and two sisters, Helen and Minnie.

Pallbearers will be family members.
