Hannah is survived by her parents, Chris and Cheryl Vedrines; her sister, Allison Bonin (Robin); her two children, Jude (Mathew McWhorter; Tom and Mary McWhorter) and Anlynn (Craig Hilleary); her niece Elise Bonin and nephews Eliot and Oliver Bonin; and a whole bunch of aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, colleagues, coworkers, neighbors, cats, dogs, and Gary the tortoise, who are all profoundly devastated by this loss.
Hannah is preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, Wanda Edwards; maternal grandfather, Bob Flood and wife Mary Ann Flood; paternal grandmother, Anna Autin; paternal grandfather, Richard Vedrines and wife Shirley Vedrines, and her uncles Michael Flood, Timothy Vedrines and Gregory Vedrines.
Hannah attended school at Little People Place, Daspit Elementary, Belle Place Junior High, and Catholic High School where she excelled at everything (truly), especially English, Science, and Math. She attended the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, receiving a Bachelors of Science and a Master of Science degree in Geology carrying a 4.0 GPA. She worked for Kourco Environmental Services as an Environmental Geologist before joining the family business started by her mother and father, Advanced Graphic Engraving (AGE). As the business grew, Hannah rose to a management position. As a manager, Hannah worked side by side with her sister, Allison, and their employees and was always available to help complete an order or to assist where needed. While in her position with AGE, Hannah accomplished the staggering feat of completing almost two million items for nine Navy ships with zero errors and with all delivered on schedule. This accomplishment is a testament to her commitment to her work and to the way she approached everything in life.
Hannah was a traveler. She visited the western United States as part of her graduate studies in geology and took trips to France, Italy, Switzerland, Cozumel, Honduras, and other places, domestic and abroad, with family and friends. She hiked the Appalachian Trail with family, loved spending time with her children and family at her mom and dad’s camp in Toledo Bend, and multiple trips to Disney World. She was always up for any new adventure that came her way, but her love for her home state always brought her back to Louisiana where she enthusiastically engaged in her community at festivals like Festival International de Louisiane, Jazz Fest, Mardi Gras, Sugarcane Festival, Crawfish Festival, and many others.
Hannah was an incredibly gifted artist, singer, and musician. The walls of her home were blank canvases onto which she painted murals, alone and with her children, Jude and Annie. Art works by local artists that she knew and appreciated also adorned her walls. A hand fashioned “clothesline” in her dining room was used to hang her children’s artwork on display. Her voice was angelic and her range impressive. She could sing rock, R&B, and gospel with equal passion and beauty, but it was with her church choir at Nativity of Our Lady Catholic Church that her voice really shone. Hannah was a lifelong member of the church and active member of the Youth Group throughout middle and high school, and it was there that she learned voice, guitar, and piano. She used these newfound talents to not only play in the church band, but to become the band director at the age of 17.
Hannah was an intellect, scholar, artist, singer, musician, wit, and scientist, but her most impressive accomplishments to showcase her talents are her children, Jude McWhorter and Anlynn Hilleary. Hannah engaged her children in a variety of activities, was hands-on in all endeavors, and was a firm but supportive ally in their lives. Her face was consistently aglow with joy and pride in conversations about her kids, watching them engaged in activities, and celebrating their successes. Her love for them has so completely enveloped them they will never be without her. This love extended to her niece, Elise Bonin, and her nephews, Eliot and Oliver Bonin, who were treated on par with her own children by their Tantie Han. Her love and compassion were willingly and equally distributed amongst her extended families (which were large), friends, colleagues, coworkers, and even strangers who would quickly be transformed into friends.
Hannah’s family would like to recognize and extend their enduring appreciation and thanks to the following: To Candace Leger who took care of Hannah once she was being transitioned to hospice care, whose love, compassion, and dedication helped to ease Hannah’s pain, facilitate her comfort, and alleviate the family’s fears. To Ochsner Cancer Center of Acadiana, especially Dr. Prouet, Emily Levy, and all the staff in the office and infusion center for their commitment to their work, their patients, and the patients’ families, for their grace and respect for Hannah and her family, and for their overall humanity in their dedication to doing the difficult. To the Hospice of Acadiana Calcutta House, especially Nurses Carla and Samantha, the staff, and volunteers for creating a space of peace, comfort, and grace for the dying and their families that allow for them to focus their energies on transitioning, loss, and acceptance.
If you were ever blessed to meet Hannah Lynn Vedrines, even if only briefly, then you knew true love, compassion, and respect. Those were her primary languages. Her brief life was a vibrant mural in so many colors of wide smiles, easy laughter, humor, wit, love, love, and love. She will be so incredibly missed, but never forgotten, not even a little bit.
Ted Vedrines, Michael Luzier, Cole Vedrines, Nathan Beisser, Blaine Cottam, and Trent Belisle are honored to serve as pallbearers.
Memorial donations may be made in her name to Hospice of Acadiana, 2600 Johnston Street, Suite 200; Lafayette, LA 70503.
