John Thomas Lopez

NEW IBERIA – Funeral services will be conducted for John Thomas Lopez, age 53, at 1:00 pm on Monday, February 5, 2018 at Holy Family Chapel with Fr. Bill Melancon officiating. Interment will follow at Holy Family Cemetery.

Visitation will take place at the funeral home on Monday from 9:00 am until service time.

A native and resident of New Iberia, John passed away on Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

John was a kind and caring man who enjoyed the simple life of country living. He liked to spend time outdoors, play with his black lab, Rowdy, and go fishing. John had a great sense of humor and loved to tease his friends and family at every chance he got. He will be truly and deeply missed by all those who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his daughters, Jessi Johnson of Vinton and Jonell Lopez of Texas City; brother, Ernest Lopez, Jr. of New Iberia; sisters, Sister (Mary Alice) Josita Lopez of Jonesboro, AR, Sandra Norwood and husband George, Sr. of Erath, Suzette Menard and husband Orien of New Iberia, and Roberta Lopez of New Iberia; and numerous nieces, nephews and godchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Ernest, Sr. and Roberta Baudoin Lopez; maternal grandparents, Reynold and Alice Chauvin Baudoin; and paternal grandparents, Thomas and Emmeline Lopez.

Pallbearers will be George Norwood, Jr., Michael Norwood, Jason Desormeaux, Bill Domingue, David “Bigfoot” Gallet, and Tim Guidry.

Honorary pallbearers will be Ernest Lopez, Jr., George Norwood, Sr., James Labit, and Ashton Ryan, Sr.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at Hospice of Acadiana, especially to John’s nurse, Seth.
