A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Fr. Anslum will officiate.
Joe will be laid to rest alongside his wife at Memorial Park Mausoleum with Military Honors by the Acadiana Veteran’s Honor Guard.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed on Monday, April 1, 2024, from 4:00 pm until 10:00 pm at Evangeline Funeral Home. A Family Remembrance will be held at 6:00 pm and a Rosary will be prayed at 7:00 pm, led by the Men’s Rosary Group. The funeral home will reopen on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, from 8:00 am until 10:30 am.
Born on July 10, 1937, to the late Lawless Louis and Eve Dore Bourque in Jefferson Island, Joe was one of six siblings.
Joe proudly served his country in the US Army, demonstrating unwavering dedication and earning several medals for his honorable service. Following his military career, Joe embarked on a lifelong journey as a hardworking truck driver since the age of 17. He was employed for over two decades at Doerle’s Food Services.
Joe had a passion for bowling, as he dedicated himself to the New Iberia Bowler's Association and served as President of Verna's Very Special Bowling League, leaving a lasting impact on the bowling community. He also enjoyed spending time outdoors fishing.
Joe's family fondly remembers his captivating storytelling, especially the tales from his mischievous childhood days. One such story recounts his and his brothers' adventurous escapades, climbing trees to evade school, only to face the consequences once their father uncovered their antics.
Above all, Joe cherished the time spent with his beloved family. Whether gathered around the television watching western movies, wrestling matches, The Price is Right, or Young and the Restless, every moment shared was imbued with love and laughter.
Those left behind to cherish his memory are his children, Katina Boudreaux (Antoine); Angela Bourque (Leroy); Tabatha Bourque; Timothy “T-Boy” Bourque (Samantha); Brenda Bourque; Angel Boutte (Louis “LJ”); Patty Sibille (Doug) and Charlene Floris (Clay); his grandchildren, Bethannie Guilbeau (Seth); Maci Langlinais (Trevor Dufour); Laci Langlinais (Michael Dauzat); Gaige Langlinais (Emilee); Hannah Bourque-Wright (Derrick); Joshua Bourque (Ashley); Summer Bourque; Kimberly Bourque; Zachary Bourque; Levi Bourque; Naomi Boutte (David Pickering); Nikole Boutte; Todd Boutte (Jaylyn) Clifford Burke, Jr. (Allison); Keisha Burke (Joey Daigle); Bryce Sibille (Haylie); Heather Frederick (Eric); Dylan Floris (Jalynn Stoutes); Gabrielle Guilbeaux (Gabriel); Christina Bourque twenty-four great-grandchildren, including Emberlynn Guilbeau; Elijah Guilbeau and Lorelai Langlinais; and three great great-grandchildren.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Verna Veronie Bourque; his son, Daniel Bourque; great-granddaughter, Natalie Rose Sibille and his siblings, Victorian Bourque, Ewell Bourque, Louis Bourque, Rosa Mae Gary and Mable Bourque.
Honored to serve as pallbearers are Gaige Langlinais, Seth Guilbeau, Cliff Burke, Michael Dauzat, Todd Boutte, Dylan Floris, Joshua Bourque, Bryce Sibille and Zachary Bourque.
