It is with great sorrow and deep love that the Hebert family announces the passing of Joyce Broussard Hebert, a loving and devoted wife and mother, and our beloved “Nannan”, Aunt Joyce and Tauntie. Joyce gently closed her eyes to this earthly life on Friday, May 8, 2026, and entered into eternal glory. She was 92 years old.
Joyce was born on July 20, 1933, in Abbeville, Louisiana, to the late Augustin and Palmire Trahan Broussard. She was one of nine children born to their union and was raised in a family deeply rooted in Cajun heritage, where faith, love, compassion, and devotion to family were instilled from an early age.
It was during a night out with friends at a local dance that Joyce first met a debonair young man named Harold Hebert. Although she did not dance with him that evening because she was not feeling well, they eventually shared that dance and remained dance partners for life. Joyce and Harold shared a beautiful American love story and a marriage that endured more than 73 years. To this day, Harold lovingly refers to her as his “Movie Star.”
Together they built a home filled with love and compassion, eventually adopting their son, Harold Joseph Hebert, Jr., and giving him the loving family he so deserved.
Early in their marriage, Joyce worked in the New Iberia community while Harold focused on building his business, D&H Welding Supplies. For many years she worked for Tiny Walter at Center Street Pharmacy, where she enjoyed caring for customers and serving others. After the family relocated to Scott, Joyce devoted herself fully to her home and family, lovingly caring for their son Harold, Jr. and their nieces, nephews, and countless children through the years. Her home was always warm and welcoming and will be remembered fondly for the candy bowl that awaited every child who entered.
Joyce and Harold spent nearly every moment together. Whether traveling across the United States and Canada in their RV or simply enjoying everyday life side by side, their companionship was unwavering. Family members still laugh lovingly at Joyce’s famous phone call from Canada, marveling that they happened to arrive during a heat wave. The story became one of many treasured family memories.
Joyce also enjoyed bowling and was a proud member of the New Iberia Bowlers Association, where her team proudly wore shirts sponsored by Harold’s business, D&H Welding Supply.
Her Catholic faith remained the cornerstone of her life. She and Harold were faithful parishioners of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church while living in New Iberia and later attended Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Scott. Even through the heartbreak of losing their son, Harold Jr., Joyce’s heart remained open, and her home continued to echo with the love and laughter of family and children. She embodied the very meaning of motherhood, and nothing was more important to her than the people she loved.
Although we will miss her dearly, we hold her memory dear to our hearts and in our thoughts forever and look forward to the day that we too will be reunited with her in the heavens above. Joyce may your soul and the souls of all the faithfully departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. We love you.
Those left to cherish her memory are her devoted husband and best friend of 72 years, Harold Joseph Hebert, Sr.; her sisters-in-law, Vivian Derouen, Josienell Justillien, and Beverly Louviere; her brother-in-law, Arvers Hebert; and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews who loved her dearly.
She was preceded in death by her beloved son, Harold Joseph Hebert, Jr.; her parents, Augustin and Palmire Broussard; and her siblings, Emery Broussard, Lydie St. Amant, Allen Broussard, Alton Broussard, Lauris Broussard, Gladys DuBois, Elmae Touchet, and Laura Burch.
A Catholic service celebrating Joyce’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, at Evangeline Funeral Home, with Deacon Durk Viator officiating. Following the service, she will be laid to rest alongside her son at Memorial Park Cemetery.
A gathering of family and friends will be held Tuesday at Evangeline Funeral Home from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service with the Men’s Rosary Group leading the recitation of the rosary at 12:00 pm.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Paul Hebert, Kevin Burch, Mike Landry, Hayden Landry, Pat Hebert, and Byron Blanchard.
The family would like to thank the staff at Community Hospice Care especially her nurse, Karen and her personal care aide, Clarissa both of whom were always there when needed. Also, a very special thanks to Torie (and her staff) whose selfless care and loving kindness allowed Joyce to remain at home until her final destination.
