Lorraine Landry Poirrier, our beloved Aunt, the best praline maker, and a world-famous TikTok star, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 23, 2025, at her residence, surrounded by her family. She was 86. Born on December 5, 1938, in Erath, Lorraine was one of four children born to the late Elie Landry and the late Laura Katherine Romero Landry. She was a devoted employee of BellSouth, where she worked for over 38 years, rising from teller to Service Representative, and she truly loved her work.
Outside of her career, Lorraine and her beloved husband, Francis, spent their time exploring nature. As members of the Bayou Carlin Sams Club of Delcambre, they enjoyed camping with family and friends at Ken’s Campground on beautiful Lake Peigneur. Another of the favorites was in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, in the Great Smoky Mountains.
Lorraine was not only known for her love of camping but also for her amazing culinary talents. She could always be found at home, spoiling her family with the best meals and treats in all of South Louisiana. Her pralines were world-famous, and her pork tips with gravy and gumbo were the best in the region. In addition to being an outstanding cook, Lorraine was an accomplished painter and skilled seamstress, making clothes and crafts for her family.
But perhaps what made Lorraine a global sensation was her TikTok fame. At the age of 86, Lorraine became an internet star after a sweet, innocent video with her great-nephew, Elie, talking about her age and went viral, garnering over 21 million views. This newfound fame led to her creating TikTok videos, teaching others Cajun French words and becoming a beloved figure worldwide. Who would have thought an elderly Cajun lady would become a TikTok sensation? Only our Aunt Lorraine.
We will miss her firecracker spirit, her quick wit, and her infectious smile. But we take comfort in knowing that she is now reunited with her beloved husband and family in eternal glory. Her memory will live on in our hearts, and we will cherish her forever. Rest well, Aunt Lorraine. We love you.
Those left to cherish her memory include her nieces and nephews, Ricky Gachassin, Jackie Dore', Buddy Dore', Mike Landry, Bryan Landry, and Sherry Romero; her great-niece, Laura Dillashaw, who was like a daughter to her; her sister-in-law, Cris Landry; and a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 58 years, Francis Poirrier; her parents, Elie and Laura Katherine Romero Landry; her nieces, Judy Broussard, Sandra Hebert, and Paulette Graciana; and her siblings, Mabel Gachassin and husband Voorhies, Irene Dore' and husband Paul Dore' Sr., and Roy Landry.
Funeral services celebrating Lorraine's life will be held on Thursday, March 27, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Evangeline Funeral Home, with Deacon Russell Hayes officiating. Following the service, Lorraine will be laid to rest beside her husband at Our Lady of the Lake Mausoleum in Delcambre.
A gathering of family and friends will take place on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service, with the Men’s Rosary Group leading the recitation of the Rosary at 11:00 am.
