NEW IBERIA - Coteau mourns the passing of Lou Romero Thibodeaux, a beloved member of the community, who departed this life on Monday, February 26, 2024, at the age of 86. Born in Iberia Parish, Louisiana, Lou's life was characterized by her unwavering devotion to family and her passion for community engagement.
Lou's family was the center of her universe, and she devoted herself wholeheartedly to their well-being. She took immense joy in spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, never missing a school event or milestone. Her presence at every sporting event, academic function, marching/concert band performance, or competition was a testament to her boundless love and support for her family.
An accomplished seamstress, Lou's talent was evident in the intricate designs she created. She poured her heart into her craft, culminating in the sewing of her daughter Sandra’s wedding dress, a cherished symbol of her love and dedication. Additionally, Lou was a fervent supporter of the LSU Tigers, her enthusiasm never waning as she faithfully followed their televised games.
In her social circles, Lou was known for her love of playing Pokeno with friends and for her regular attendance at class lunches with her fellow alumni from the New Iberia High School, Class of '55.
Lou is survived by her devoted children: Hank "Billy" Williams Thibodeaux (Helen), Hubert "Skipper" Paul Thibodeaux (Karen), Sandra Thibodeaux Corne (Jared), and Faron Thibodeaux (Laura). She leaves behind a legacy of love in her grandchildren: Corey Thibodeaux (Jennifer), Sara T. Dugas (Brenden), Tiesha Babineaux ("Bubba"), Lauren Corne, Brenda C. Landry (Jude), Alex C. Hammond (Mark), Noel Corne, Courtney Thibodeaux (Doug), Brennan Thibodeaux (Cristen), Grace Thibodeaux. Step grandchildren: Joey Landry Jr., Philip Landry (Trudy), Garrett Airhart, Colby Airhart (Amy), Cori Airhart (Chase), and Zachary Airhart (Racquel). Lou also leaves behind ten great-grandchildren and twelve step-great-grandchildren to cherish her memory.
Lou was preceded in death by her parents, Simonette and Edeze Conques Romero, her former husband and the father of her children, Hubert Paul Thibodeaux Sr., her grandchild Brandon Thibodeaux, and her maternal and paternal grandparents, August and Theosea Richard Conques and Telsmar and Francois Lopez Romero.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at Evangeline Funeral Home, on Thursday, February 29, 2024, from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM, with a rosary service at 6:00 PM. Additional visitation hours will be held on Friday, March 1, 2024, from 8:00 AM to 10:30 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church, followed by interment at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Mausoleum. Fr. Matt Hebert will officiate.
Honoring Lou as pallbearers will be Hank "Billy" Thibodeaux, Hubert "Skipper" Thibodeaux, Faron Thibodeaux, Jared Corne, Corey Thibodeaux, and Brennan Thibodeaux.
The family would like to sincerely thank Shaley Hollier as her caretaker for the past several months as well as Hospice of Acadiana and the entire staff and volunteers at the Calcutta House for the overwhelming love, support, and care she received as Lou transitioned to her heavenly home.
