Mary Georgia Delcambre Olivier, a devoted wife, loving mother, proud grandmother and great-grandmother, and a dear friend, passed away peacefully on January 25, 2025, at her residence, surrounded by her family. She was 87 years old.
Georgia, as she was affectionately known, was born on October 23, 1937, in rural Iberia Parish on Bayou Petit Anse, to the late Isaac and Georgia Delcambre. A woman of strong character and deep faith, Georgia's life was one of love, kindness, and dedication to her family.
In 1986, Georgia met Edward J. Morvant, Sr., who was visiting patients at the hospital. It was a match made in Heaven, and together, they shared 38 wonderful years filled with love, laughter, and companionship. Their bond was a testament to the beauty of true partnership.
Those who knew Georgia will remember her thoughtfulness—she never missed an opportunity to celebrate the special moments in others’ lives. She was a homemaker of the highest order, known for her warm hospitality and delicious meals. Georgia's baked goods, especially her breads and red velvet cakes, were a treat for all who had the pleasure of enjoying them. Her fried chicken was legendary, and her culinary talents were matched only by her skills as a seamstress.
One of Georgia's greatest joys was working alongside Edward in their yard. Together, they tended to the grass, flower beds, and vegetable garden, and always found a way to share the fruits of their labor with family and friends.
Above all, Georgia cherished her family. She was a selfless, kind, loving woman with a heart of gold. She was happiest when surrounded by those she loved, and her memory will live on in the hearts of her family and friends. Georgia’s legacy of love and devotion will never be forgotten, and she will be dearly missed.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 38 years, Edward J. Morvant, Sr.; her children, Jan Kelly (Mark) and Pamela Guidry (Kenneth); her stepchildren, Christine Stroud (Darren) and Edward Morvant, Jr. (Mary); four grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; and her sister, Gail Castille (Larry).
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Louis Olivier, Jr.; and her siblings, Alura Benoit, Ricky Delcambre, Larry Delcambre, and Betty Landry.
In keeping with Georgia’s wishes, she was laid to rest privately at Holy Family Cemetery near her son Louis.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff of Hospice of Acadiana and Dr. Chenna Nalabolu for their care and compassion during Georgia’s final days.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in Georgia’s name to Hospice of Acadiana, 2600 Johnston St., Lafayette, LA 70503.
