A gathering of family and friends will be held at Evangeline Funeral Home on Sunday from 3:00 pm until 10:00 pm, and on Monday from 8:00 am until 12:45 pm. Interment will follow at Holy Family Mausoleum.
Reino was born on October 31, 1949 in Yoro, Honduras to the late Maria Adelina Funez and passed away on Wednesday, November 21, 2018 at his home in Jeanerette surrounded by his loving family.
Reino was a kindhearted soul who enjoyed the simple life of county living. He was an avid fishermen who was happiest with a line in the water and an ice chest full of fish. Reino also enjoyed being outdoors, camping, and especially dancing and singing. Also known as “Crazy Legs”, he was always the life of the party and brought smiles to everyone’s faces. More than anything, Reino loved his family. They meant everything to him and he cherished every moment spent with his wife, children, and grandchild. He will be truly and deeply missed by all those he knew and loved.
He is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Lisa Legnon Funez; children, Erik Funez of Jeanerette, Katlin Funez of Lafayette, Celina Funez of Jeanerette, Alex Funez and wife Lacey of Lafayette, Hazmin Funez of Jeanerette, Noel Funez of Lafayette, Karla Varvelo and husband Roberto, Sr. of Houston, and Karen Ayala and husband Juan of Tampa; siblings, Roberto Cruz and wife Tammy of New Iberia, Aminta Ruiz and husband Juan of New Iberia, and Sonia Funez of New Orleans; and grandchildren, Domanik Funez, Roman Funez, Noemi Funez, Amarissa Funez, Isabella Williams, Roberto Varvelo, Jr., Ethan Varvelo, Rebecca Varvelo, Gloria Vasquez, Nelson Vasquez, and Samantha Funez.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Maria Adelina Funez; and siblings, Samuel Funez, Orlando Funez, Antonio Funez, Elda Funez, and Ixcela Funez.
Pallbearers will be Erik Funez, Katlin Funez, Alex Funez, Noel Funez, Jose Funez, Domanik Funez, Johnny Funez, Jr., Christian Cruz, Javier Gonzalez, Roberto Varvelo, Jr., and Ethan Varvelo.
