Susan Landry Ashford, beloved wife, mother, sister, and friend, passed away on Friday, May 3, 2024, at the age of 75. Susan's journey was marked by courage and resilience as she battled severe illness over the past four years, displaying remarkable strength until the very end.
Born on July 9, 1948, in Jeanerette, Louisiana, Susan was the daughter of the late Elmore J. Landry and the late Mildred Segura Landry. Her dedication to serving her country was evident from a young age, as she proudly served in the United States Navy stationed in Norfolk, Virginia, with the Atlantic Fleet. Susan was honorably discharged on October 30, 1970, holding the rank of CYN3. Even after her military service, Susan remained committed to supporting fellow women veterans through her involvement with the Louisiana Women Veterans.
Susan's thirst for knowledge and her adventurous spirit led her to enroll in Spanish classes at the University of Louisiana Lafayette, seizing every opportunity offered by the Veterans Administration.
In her leisure time, Susan enjoyed delving into genealogy, immersing herself in the vibrant culture of South Louisiana by attending various festivals, notably Festival International, and passionately following ice hockey. She was a dedicated fan of the Ice Gators in Lafayette and avidly supported her favorite team, the Florida Panthers.
Though her passing leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew her, there is solace in the belief that one day, they will be reunited with her in eternal peace.
Susan is survived by her devoted husband of 45 years, John Russell Ashford; her loving daughter and son Chelsea Landry Villante (husband Marc); and Lindsey Paul Ashford; her cherished grandson, Blaise Ashford, and his mother, Holly Morvant; her dear sister and brother, Robyn Landry Bonin and Owen Landry and wife Brenda; her niece and nephews, Meagan Bonin, Christopher Landry and family, and Ron Landry and family; and her treasured friends, Olena Arrington and Tina Melancon. Along with many beloved cousins from both the Segura and Landry families.
She is now reunited with her parents, Elmore and Mildred Landry, in the eternal embrace of peace.
