

Allen W. Hayes, 89, passed away peacefully on September, 15, 2010 at Bridebrook Health and Rehab in Niantic. Born on October 30, 1920 in Philadelphia, PA to Allen and Amy Champion Hayes. He was a retired engineer from the Town of Waterford. He was a WWII SubVet, Past Master and 32nd degree Mason at Masonic Lodge 31. He also had past involvement with American Legion and the Lions Club.
Allen was best known for his recitation of ballads from memory, his daily jokes and "Happy Hour" on the patio of his home where he lived with his surviving wife, Ruth Hayes. Also surviving are children, Alice Reilly and Judy Vathis in New Jersey, Jeffrey Hayes in Virginia, Nancy Truszynski in Colorado, Linda Nichols, Brenda Talar, Ruth Willow and Adriene Merry, local residents in Connecticut, as well as many grandchildren and great grandcildren.
Allen's life will be celebrated at a memorial service on September 25th at 10 a.m. at Bayview Masonic Temple, Society Road, Niantic, CT. Interment in Jordan Cemetery, Waterford will be private.
