Andrew Joseph Donofrio, 80, of Quaker Hill, beloved husband of Mary Victoria Murallo for 11 years, passed away peacefully on February 19, 2020. Born in Hartford on October 10, 1939, he was the son of the late Andrew and Rita (Wilkie) Donofrio.
In 1952, Andy moved to Newington. After graduating from Newington High School, he earned an Associate Degree from Hartford State Technical Institute, a Bachelor’s Degree at the University of Hartford, and a Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Connecticut. Andy was employed by United Technologies for 35 years, working at Connecticut Advanced Nuclear Engineering Laboratory (CANEL) for five years before continuing his engineering career at Hamilton Standard. He was a member of the Newington Volunteer Fire Department (NVFD) for over 20 years and active in the Newington Veterans Fire Association (NVFA). Andy was also a member of the New Britain Elks for eight years and the New Britain YMCA for over 50 years. He loved sports and enjoyed playing racquetball at the YMCA and bowling with the Meadow St. League. He coached for the Newington Little League, Midget Football, and Parks and Recreation Basketball. He also loved watching car racing, playing cards, and spending time with family and friends. Remembered for his determination and passion for life, he will be greatly missed leaving his family and friends with many cherished memories.
In addition to his wife, Mary, he leaves his children, Andrew Donofrio, Jr. and his wife Cindy, David Donofrio and his wife Michelle, and Pamela Donofrio McGovern and her husband Timothy; his step-sons Shawn Monahan and his wife Jennifer and James “Diego” Monahan and his wife Rachel; his grandchildren Kaitlyn and Andrew Richard, Justin, Jason, and Teresa Donofrio, Brody, Emma, and Jacqueline Monahan; and his great grandchildren Lilly, Julia, and Adrianna. He is also survived by his brothers Donald and his wife Elaine, and Norman and his wife Donna, along with several cousins, nieces, and nephews. The family wishes to thank Beechwood and Beacon Hospice for their caring services.
Relatives and friends are invited to call on Monday, February 24, from 4 to 6 p.m. followed by a Service at 6 p.m. at the Fulton-Theroux Funeral Home, 181 Ocean Ave., New London.
