Esther W. Schimmel

Mrs. Schimmel was born on August 24, 1920 in New Bedford , MA the daughter of Eugene and Maud West. She is predeceased by her husband Willard C. Schimmel in 1995. A homemaker all her life, she took great pride in her family. She was an excellent cook and seamstress and in her leisure she enjoyed trying new recipes, braiding rugs, quilting, and reading mystery novels. She always lived by the sea, and found great comfort and peace at the beach. Her loving family will miss her sharp wit, sense of humor and motherly wisdom. She was a member of Waterford Homemakers since 1964, and faithfully hosted and attended monthly meetings.

Mrs. Schimmel is survived by her son Steven Schimmel and his wife Theresa of RI, her three daughters Sue and her husband Dennis Durand of MA, Della Schimmel and her husband Raymond LaFerriere and LeeAnne and her husband Brian Myers both of Waterford , ten grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Bridebrook Healthcare Center for their care and compassion, as well as Hospice of SECT for making her final days comfortable.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, March 23, 2010 at 11:00am in St. Joseph Church in New London . Interment will follow in St. Mary Cemetery .
