

George V. Avila Sr., a native of Havana, Cuba and son of the late Marcelina and Candida Lopez de Avila passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, Jan 6th at the age of 91. He was formerly living in Chalmette and residing in Luling, LA since 2005. A devoted husband of the late Iona S. Avila. He is survived by a daughter, Susan Warden (Dave) of Luling, LA, John Avila (Karen) of Chalmette, LA and the late George V. Avila Jr. and (Judith) of Abita Springs, LA. He is also survived by his Grandchildren, Greg Avila, Denise Wallace, Mary Kempff, Chris Warden, and Colleen Avila. He was also great grandfather to Cory and Riche Wallace; Madison, Kyle and Logan Kempff and Julian and James Warden. Mr. Avila was an Army veteran who served in the Pacific Theater during WW-II and a member of VFW post 218 in Algiers, LA. A 1938 graduate of Holy Cross High School, he was employed by the United Fruit Company in New Orleans. He was an avid golfer and a member of the City Park Golf Club since 1946. “Paw Paw George” will be sorely missed by all those who loved and knew him. Relatives and Friends of the Family are invited to attend services at JACOB SCHOEN & SON FUNERAL HOME, 3827 Canal St., New Orleans, LA on Tuesday, January 11th from 5 PM to 9 PM. Interment at a
