

Roy E. Lassus, Sr. died on August 13, 2012 surrounded by family. He was 87. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Catherine Grannan Lassus, and his brother Donald Lassus. He was a Kings Point graduate who served during World War II as a Lieutenant in the Merchant Marines and the Navy Reserve in both the Atlantic and Pacific Theaters.
He was a certified mortgage banker and retired as president of Standard Mortgage Corporation.
He was born in New Orleans on January 22, 1925. He is survived by his three children: Roy Lassus (Kathleen), Louis Lassus, and Anita Helberg (Gary). He had eight grandchildren: Danny Lassus, Jason Lassus, Natalie Suarez, Melanie Lassus, Michael Lassus, Paul Battard, Derek Battard, and Alex Battard. He had 10 great grandchildren.
Roy was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf, and jogging. After his retirement he traveled extensively, visiting locations he deemed interesting, historic, educational and, of course, fun. He was a passionate Saints fan and an original season ticket holder.
Relatives and friends of the family are welcome to attend a Memorial Mass in the Chapel of Jacob Schoen & Son Funeral Home, 3827 Canal St.; on Monday, August 20, 2012 at 12:00 pm. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am until service time. Interment will be Private. In lieu of flowers, relatives and friends are asked to make donations to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
