Shirley Marie Bartels

Shirley Marie Nuss Bartels, age 84 years old, died Tuesday, April 3, 2012 at her residence after a brave battle with cancer with her family at her side, in Slidell, Louisisana. She was a native of New Orleans, Louisiana and was a resident of Pearl River, Louisiana for over 21 years and a resident of Slidell for the last 5 years.

Shirley was a graduate of McDonough High School. She was a homemaker most of her life working briefly as a bookkeeper for Delta Steamship. She was a member of St. Luke the Evangelist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents Selina Federico Nuss and William Nuss and two brothers Richard Nuss and William Nuss. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Herman William Bartels Sr.

She is survived by her four children, Cheryl Ann Bartels Walsh (Victor), Dr. Kathleen June Bartels (Dr.John Louis Magee), Herman William Bartels Jr. and Glenn Richard Bartels Sr. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Victor Joseph Walsh Jr., Christine Selina Bartels Walsh, Glenn “Butch” Richard Bartels Jr. and Drake Alan Bartels, and a sister-in-law, Anita Sierra Nuss, along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Luke the Evangelist Church, 910 Cross Gates Blvd., Slidell, Louisiana 70461, at 2:00 P.M. visitation will begin at 1:00 P.M. until mass time on Friday, April 13, 2012.
