

He was the son of the late Charles Allen and Lollie Torbett, Sr. and was raised in the Claiborne County community where he learned to excel as a very personable and likeable community leader.
Bud was charter member of New Tazewell Christian Church where he helped design and build the church. He was a Claiborne County businessman who used his entrapeneaurial talents to maintain and build several businesses, including C.A. Torbett, Inc. oil company and Bud’s Pic and Pay.
He loved the privilege of the freedoms he experienced in this country and choose to serve in the Korean War of which he was a veteran.
He was an outgoing and enjoyable person who enthusiastically participated in many community leadership clubs and organizations. He was a charter member of the Tazewell-New Tazewell Jaycees, member of the Optimist Club, lifetime member of the Shriner’s Club and a 32nd Degree Mason.
As a young man he was fortunate to develop and combine his love of Norris Lake with motorized boats. He spent many years on the lake with his family and friends. He also loved sporty vehicles and drove his 1971 Ford LTD convertible until recently.
His was heartbroken when his son, Greg Torbett, died of cancer, but Greg taught his Dad to fight the disease with fervor. Unfortunately, Bud also lost the battle with cancer but won Heaven peacefully in the process.
Bud leaves to mourn his passing, his loving and devoted wife, and dear friend of 61 years, Mary Lou Torbett; son, Charles Allen Torbett, III: daughter, Karen (Michael Lawson) Torbett; daughter-in-law, Robin Torbett; grandson, Rhett Torbett; sister, Joyce (Clarence) Overton and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life Ceremony will take place Sat., Oct. 13, 2012 at the New Tazewell Christian Church at 2:00pm. with Rev. Mike Parker, David Bishop, David Cook, Nita Munsey, Karen Torbett and Jeff Lewis officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00am- 2:00pm, Saturday, Oct. 13, 2012 at the New Tazewell Christian Church prior to service. Masonic Service will begin the Celebration of Life.
Burial with Military Honors will follow at the Fairview Cemetery.
