

Seth G. Butner age 88 of Tazewell, TN, originally from Roanoke, Virginia and later Wilson, North Carolina, died August 16, 2013 at Claiborne County Hospital. He was the son of the Rev. Gene H. and Rev. Pearl Butner; Educated at the Central Academy of Southern Wesleyan University, Central South Carolina; Chesbro Academy and Eastman School of Music, Rochester, New York served in the U.S. Army Transportation Corps in the European and Pacific Theaters. Seth began his career with the Federal Works Agency, War Assets Administration and later “Blessed” with a long and successful career relating to the Dairy Food Industry. He has served on the “Board of the International Dairy and Food Association”, Washington D.C.; received the “Diary Products Institute of Texas, Inc. Hall of Fame Award; was appointed to the regional export council by then Secretary of Commerce, Maurice H. Stans, etc. He served as Executive Director of the Southern Association of Dairy Food Manufacturers encompassing thirteen southern states. He has been active in a myriad of voluntary community organizations during his career among which was Past-Chairman of Claiborne County Planning Commission, Past-President of the Claiborne County Chamber of Commerce and the Tazewell United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his Parents; son Michael Butner; sisters, Ruth Powers, Ruby Coleman; brothers, Carston Butner, James Butner and infant brother, Dallas
Surviving Mr. Butner are his spouse, Joyce; daughter, Vicki Watts of Louisville, Kentucky; step-son, Kelly Munsey of New Tazewell also with several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
The body will lie-in-state from 12:00 Noon until funeral time at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday August 20, 2013 at Tazewell United Methodist Church with internment in the Irish Cemetery.
