with his father Fekadu Malavazi and his mother Marta Malavazi in Queens. He attended
elementary school at Our Lady of the Angles which he had completed with honors. He spent his
childhood summers traveling throughout Africa, Asia and Europe with his father who was an
architect. Bennyam attended Regis High in Manhattan and graduated from Carnegie University
majoring in Electrical and Computer Engineering/Economics in 2000.
Ben was 42 years old when he passed away in New York City on Monday, June 7th, 2021.
He was a truly special person, a rare and beautiful human being. Many people who knew Ben
considered him their best friend, and he was universally respected and loved for his
compassion, integrity, and infinite generosity. He always saw the light in people and brought that
out of them, oftentimes when they couldn't even see it for themselves. He has been many
people's pillar of strength in times of need and darkness, giving his time and resources selflessly
and without second thought. Many of his colleagues and friends would attest that he is one of
the most uniquely and authentically generous people they have ever met. He gave endlessly.
Bennyam was a passionate and gifted software engineer. A man of vision and conviction. He
started his career at Hewlett Packard in 2001. Over the last two decades, he provided his
exceptional leadership and technical skills at Atheros Communications, Qualcomm, Gravity
Mobile, CardFree, Kenzo Digital Media, LLC. and A.R.T. Advisors, LLC., as a Senior Software
Engineer, Lead Software Engineer, Senior Android Developer and Software Architect
Bennyam is survived by his mother Marta, whom he loved above all. The kindness, generosity,
and comradery that he gave to so many people will be an enduring gift to those he touched in
his life. It is an absolute privilege to those who knew him best, and they will forever be blessed
with the eternal gift of his life. He will be missed deeply and dearly.
