Colin Charles Petch, Jr., a loyal friend and devoted father, passed away on September 27, 2019, at the age of 64. Born on May 22, 1955, in New York City to Colin Charles Petch Sr. and Emma Carpenter. He attended St. Jean the Baptiste Elementary School, graduated from Rhodes Preparatory School in 1973 and continued his education at NYU, University Without Walls, where he majored in Behavioral Psychology. It was at NYU when he was researching the concept of light and behavior, for a thesis, that his interest in theatre began. Good-bye psychology. Hello theatre. As a member of IATSE Local 1, he has worked and toured Broadway shows, Industrials, and Television. His last position was as Head Electrician at MSNBC at NBC. During his early years on Broadway, he worked during the day as a Surgical Technician at Mt. Sinai Hospital, NYC and Vassar Brothers, Poughkeepsie, NY.
He loved travelling, sailing, and English horseback riding. At a young age he competed in show jumping and considered training to be on the US Olympic Junior team but friends were more interesting than horses by the age of sixteen. Colin was always there for his friends and colleagues as a defender and someone to lean on but his daughter Emily was his heartbeat. Every sentence started or ended with “Emily”.
He is survived by his beloved 10 year-old daughter Emily, Lynne Lloyd, Roxanne Baisas, Selfy Purnama. He is remembered and missed by countless friends from IATSE Local 1, Q300, LICSB, his MSNBC family.
Visitation from 2:00 to 9:00 PM on Sunday October 6, 2019, at the Walter B Cooke Funeral Home, 352 E 87th St, NYC. Visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 AM Monday October 7, 2019 at St. Jean Baptiste RCC, Lexington Ave at E 76th St, NYC, followed by an 11:00 AM Mass of the Resurrection.
