I am very sorry to hear of David's death.  I send my condolences to you and your family.
David was a colleague and a friend.  He was unusually curious and thoughtful in his work and loyal and warm to his friends.  His confidence surely grew from a deep  integrity.  He would call me when he had a project he wanted to show or a project he wanted to see.  I always looked forward to being with him and learning from him.
I would see him impeccably dressed in a rainstorm, somehow remaining dry and cheerful.

The members and Board of Cafh Foundation wish to extend condolences to the family of David Specter and the members of Specter DeSouza Architects.  As long-time tenants on the second floor at 2061 Broadway, we knew David to be a gentle, friendly, and intelligent man who served effectively on the building's Board of Directors and who always was very kind and thoughtful in any discussions with us relating to our space in the building.

Green Pond will never be the same without David. His memory and works will live on.

I am saddened by the passing of an old friend and office-mate
from the late 1950s. Heartfelt condolences to his family.

Dear Pat,
So many of David's Century pals are saddened by his passing, he walked tall among us.
He was a fine architect of course. But what I most recall were the dramatic photographs he exhibited in the Century amateur artists' show every year. David's photos were "professional" in look, feel, style and composition.
I remember, probably in 1998 or 1999, he had some 10" x 12" cityscape photos hanging in the show. I was quite impressed with one dramatic image and tracked down David during the show's opening night (I barely knew him at the time.) I complimented him effusively on the photo. 
"That's so powerful a picture," I said, "you should have it printed in large format -- maybe even three feet by four."
"Where would I get that done?" he asked.
We had just recently installed a huge laser printer at my ad agency so I said: 
"I can have it done tomorrow, just email me the jpeg and I'll get it printed."
"What's the charge for that?" he said.
I told him the "charge" was that I'd keep a print for myself.
"Done!" he said.
The next day he came over to the agency about 5pm and I handed him his crisp beautifully reproduced 4' X 3' print -- he was bowled over!
David responded like a 10-year-old boy who stealthily creeps down the family staircase at 6am on Christmas morning -- and spots a shiny new Schwinn bike waiting under the tree. 
David took the big print, rolled it very carefully, and walked out of the office with it under his arm -- and sporting a big grin. 
It's an image I can recall to this day.
We shall miss David.

Dear Pat and Matthew, although I am in Vancouver visiting Philip, Andrew sent me news of David,s death. Of course , I wanted to tell you how sorry I am  to hear this, but also to add a small note to his accomplishments. david developed the concept of the first gym in a classic Park Avenue building..1125 Park ...it was built in the buildings old coal room, which was 40 feet high. He envisioned a two story facility with a full gym, half basketball court and children,s playroom, which has been in place for twenty years and has been copied endless times by other classic apartment buildings. I,ll think of him and you, often.
