I was hired by Dewey Ballantine in 1974 fresh out of law school and unsure if life as a tax lawyer (or any other kind) was right for me. I was shocked by the quality of the partners, including David Watts (or ‘Dewdrop’ as we associates affectionately referred to him).  He was an example of not only intelligence and high ethics, but also joie de vie.  I still miss him. 

PS. His published article “Some Problems of Constructive Receipt” is still the best on that topic.

What a great person. He was inspirational to me as a first year associate at Dewey in 1974.   Patient and intellectually challenging.  His article on constructive receipt is the best thing ever written on that topic. And he was charming too.
