Eddie Palmieri was, is, and will always be one of the most transcendent musicians of all time. He was a lover of the drum, a legend of Afro-Caribbean music, and a jazz maestro.
He was our political, social, and cultural spokesperson, rebellious and daring, a humanist of our times.
He was my idol and inspiration, and, I say this with pride, he was my friend.
Writing "Eddie Palmieri, La Historia del Sol Mayor" is one of the greatest achievements of my life as a music fan. It was a challenge that came from Eddie himself, that September afternoon in 2019, here in Lima, Peru. He was the one who lit the spark.
Tocayo, rest in peace. We are still here, missing you and honoring your legacy. I love you.

My Condolences goes out to the Palmieri family and to Mr. Palmieri's friends. Mr. Palmieri is a role model not only in music but in life. He was a student of the game and a teacher at the same time. I learned a lot by just listening to his interviews and his music. Although I never met Mr. Palmieri personally, I have kept in contact with Eddie Palmieri II and always try and find an opportunity to highlight Mr. Palmieri's legacy. His body is no longer on this planet but his music and lessons will live on forever and I along with the International Salsa Museum will make sure of that.

Since I had some time to spare that evening I went to see a show at I think was named Galleria  where Tony Vega was performing. He was up on stage when he saw me  and moved his like come (while he was singing) Dennise I hear you can get me in to see Eddie. I said sure, bring one band member, I have a small car and meet me in the back, they're standing in line for you😊. We get to Eddie's location and he won't open the door, no matter how hard the guys knocked. Not thinking I yell "fire" little did I know that could have been jail time...well that got Eddie up as he's running out the door half dressed. Oh man there was so much laughter and seeing these two hug and pat each other in the back. I'm an emotional person so I cried from happiness. I don't know how the other guys got wind of this reunion but they appeared. And this is making a long story short! Gonna miss ya' Eddie P  the 1st. One and only

Siempre que escucho que hacen la pregunta sobre qué LP escucharías si estuvieras de náufrago en una isla sin posibilidad de salir, mi contestación es Mambo  Con Conga Es Mozambique del maestro  Eddie, aunque parezca increíble la música de esta grabación me calma, pues para cada situación que se me presenta encuentro la respuesta en alguna de las canciones del disco, tristeza, alegría, empatía, amor…lo que sea. Además eso me llevó a profundizar más que en la música  en el hombre detrás de la misma, por eso estoy tan triste, al experimentar el sentimiento de pérdida, el cual sé que su familia tiene ahora mismo,  pero que con el pasar del tiempo afianzará el orgullo por el padre y hombre de luz que Dios les regaló a ustedes y al mundo. I met Eddie at Balneario Boca de Cangrejos in Carolina PR one summer in the mid/late 70's when he played (I think along his brother). I admired his great music, enthusiasm and love for music. Thanks for sharing your talent with us, all the memories and music which will be enjoyed by many many more.

In western Caracas, in 1961, I began to feel the music of maestro Eddie Palmieri. In my early, difficult years of life, his genius was the crutch that propelled me forward. Easy and short to say, but full of complexities when it has such a positive impact on a life. During my studies in Vermont, I would go to New York City to attend his shows. Later, I was a regular at his events. I remember the class he taught at the Teresa Carreño in Caracas, explaining the difference between salsa and its commercial derivatives. His academic training, his genius, and his creativity transcend mortality. Palmieri forever.

Thank you for all the years of great music.   You will always live in our hearts 💕  My condolences to your wife and family.  God bless you all.  We love you maestro.  🙏❤️

My Cousin Maggie who is now living in Bayamon P.R. Was the one who took me to Eddie’s concerts when I was just a teenager. My Older brother had all his music which at the time were Albums with beautiful Photography and Photos of Eddie.
In recent years we here in NYC, attended his free concerts at Bryant Park and Lincoln Ctr. He was as Grand as they come. His Justicia Album brought everybody from ALL backgrounds together. Many respected him for his talent’s & professionalism.

In 1999, I made the radical leap from the mosh pits of punk rock to the soul deep clave of Salsa, stepping into the world of RMM Records as PR for the legendary Ralph Mercado. It was there I found myself surrounded by giants,soul shakers, rhythm makers, and culture defining artists whose music shaped generations.
Among them, the great Eddie Palmieri, an icon, a force, a Newyorican through and through.
He was releasing Obra Maestra, a historic collaboration with the inimitable Tito Puente. One of the highlights I had in that time was  the rare honor of being present at one of the recording sessions at RPM Studios in Union Square (now long gone, like so many sacred music spaces in NYC). I’ll never forget the electricity in that room, the laughter, the genius, the love between Eddie and Tito. You could feel history being made.
Just weeks before the album’s release, Tito left this world. The joy of that creation suddenly carried the weight of profound loss. And yet, Obra Maestra lived on,it won a Grammy, and lives forever in the hearts of those who know.
Eddie was... punk rock in spirit. A true rebel with music in his bones and humor in his heart. He was warm, kind, endlessly talented, and working with him was one of the highlights of my life. There’s no doubt there’s a jam session in heaven right now. Eddie walking in smiling, the music already playing.
Rest in power, Maestro. Thank you for the joy, the swing, the soul. I’m forever grateful to have shared even a sliver of your orbit.

My sincere condolences to the Palmieri family. I grew up listening to Eddie’s music on the radio, and buying his record albums. Danced to his music, at house parties, the clubs, the parks, the beach, block parties, you name it. I saw him give an amazing performance at Rockefeller Park, in NYC, the summer of 2012…Amazing showmanship.  
Another music giant has gone to Heaven.

One of my fondest memories of seeing Eddie perform was when he played at the Newport Jazz Festival several years ago. He started his set with Latin jazz tunes. After a couple of numbers, he told the audience how adding trumpets and trombones would change his Latin jazz group into an Afro Cuban music ensemble. His band then tore into “De Palo Pa’ Rumba” which sent the crowd into a dancing frenzy. Rest in peace, Eddie.

I was introduced to Eddie by his close friend Michelle Zarin, who sadly, recently passed just a few weeks before Eddie.  One Christmas, I found myself suddenly traveling alone from Tokyo to NYC, due to family circumstances. On hearing about this Eddie, Iraida and Michelle, arranged for their daughter, Gabriella to pick me up and take me to Iraida’s sister’s home in the Bronx for a family Christmas gathering. Every moment I was made to feel taken care of. There was vegetarian food prepared for me and I was given a first sitting at the dinner table where everyone couldn’t sit at one time due to the many family members present. Everyone seemed to know my predicament but in a subtle and loving way, not mentioning anything. I felt like I was wrapped up in a warm blanket,  while the Bronx Christmas lights flashed on and off outside. Eddie and Elena had even prepared a gift for me assuring that I didn’t feel left out. This is a Christmas, I have never forgotten. Over the years there were reunions with warm hugs backstage at the BLUE NOTE Tokyo. My father, now passed, and I toured Tokyo for a day with Ignacio in his teenage days and saw him again work at the BLUE NOTE Tokyo shows, as if he had been doing it for ages. Eddie II was always there to welcome my family and friends to the shows and make sure we were able to spend time with Eddie after.  From NY to Tokyo, not only did Eddie’s amazing music and artistry travel across boundaries, my memory is of his loving, welcoming kindness and the legacy of an amazing family he leaves behind. Eddie-san thank you, arigato. We will miss you and that infectious smile.

My name is decin teddy  riley  and I would  just  like to say I met Eddie  Palmieri some years  ago maybe b about 50  the world  has lost  one of the greatest   legendary  musicians  i who ever  graced  the piano of afro jazz Latin  music an icon   in evey respect I just  would  kike to give   his family  my deepest  condolences  his music  will  live  forever  because  it's timeless  God bless  again  his family  and love  one and ofcouse  everyone  be ever  so blessed  decon  teddy  riley

Our heart felt condolences to the Palmieri family and friends. I met him through an acquaintance at a graduation ceremony at Hostos college..  He was kind and funny. He will surely be missed for his legendary music and talent. Rest in peace💙💙🙏🏻

I met Eddie in Santa Fe after his show at the Lensic Theater in July 2013.  What a thrill.  He told me that my father, Noro Morales, was an inspiration to him and to his brother Charlie.  My deepest condolences to the family.
