
Elaine was born in New York on March 3rd,1930, to Arnold and Ray Lipschitz. She was the eldest of four girls, and attended Seward Park High School and City College, where she earned a degree in business administration. Elaine survived osteosarcoma in 1949 and lung cancer in 1951 and 2009.
In 1951, she married Robert Stanley Jacobson, a friend since childhood. Elaine and Robbie had four children: Bill, Sara, Shelly, and Andrew.
In the late 1960s, Elaine went to work as a tax preparer for H&R Block at E. 14th Street in Manhattan. She went on to start her own business, Better Tax Service, which she continued to operate until her retirement at age 90. Even after retiring, she continued to maintain contact with many clients who had become friends over the years. Elaine was an attentive and loving friend, a mentor to many, and a smart and caring advisor to her clients.
Elaine is survived by her children Sara (Brandston), Shelly (Taylor), and Andrew, her grandchildren Melody, Ted, Billy and Caroline, her great-grandchildren Rosa and Juniper, and her son-in-law Peter Taylor and Sara’s partner, Horace Barker. She was predeceased by her husband, Robbie, her son Bill, and her sisters Anna, Laura, and Harriet.
Funeral services will be held at Riverside Memorial Chapel on Thursday, May 29 at 11 a.m. The shiva will be held at the home of Shelly Taylor.
