I was greatly saddened to hear of Geoff's death. He was my first agent in London when Katz was still a young company. It was always exciting going in there and showing the work to Geoff, I recall his unrelenting energy that drove the place. My thoughts are with Pam.

I was so saddened to learn of  Geoff’s passing- my deepest condolences  to Pam and his family. I’d known Geoff since he was a young agent in London working for Colorific and we became close friends for decades.
He cared deeply about people - his generosity of spirit will always be with me.

I'm very sorry to hear about the passing of Geoff. In late 1989 , after graduation from Photography school Geoff welcomed me warmly into his exciting agency-I couldn't quite believe my good fortune! What an amazing place- great photographers, helpful staff, and most of all the patience and helpfulness of Geoff. Just what I needed, and wanted. He was encouraging, funny, full of advice, and tough when it was needed.

Heart broken to hear such a wonderful human being has been taken so soon. I worked for Geoff at Katz in London for many years, and he was much more than a manager, he was that caring shoulder that you could depend on, he was the definition of kindness itself, the world has lost a truly good person.

Part two. 

In messages to me over the last few days, others whom I don’t know have popped up to comment on how they once called in, met Geoff and were encouraged to keep working at their craft. Buzzing on the Katz door in Kirby Street was like entering a cosy family home. Anita would be there looking calm, wise and glamorous, gentleman Lou often dropped in to see what we were working on, always genuinely interested. And it was exciting! Film came back from the lab and we’d crowd round to see what alchemy a photographer had pulled-off; motorcycle couriers would be hopping from one foot to another, desperate to take those pictures off to Heathrow for the 5pm Concorde; a call from an editor asking if so-and-so was free for an assignment the next day; the post would arrive with envelopes of tear sheets containing our published pictures. If it also sounds like some mad, Swinging 60s studio, it probably was. 

I got a call from a friend when out photographing in London last Saturday afternoon. He told me he had bad news about Geoff and felt that I should know. I carried on working in a daze to be honest - then chanced upon an outdoor street exhibition that included a picture of mine dated 1990 and which would have been an early occupant of one of the Katz Pictures filing cabinets. It felt like a celestial alignment. The friend mentioned that the funeral was being streamed in a few hours so I raced home and heard the wonderful eulogies. What I didn’t know was that Geoff and I are – were - roughly the same age and it occurred to me that he seemed much more mature and confident than me when I first set foot in his office 38 years ago. 'Make sure you've got your financials sorted first, dear boy,' he'd say. I largely took his advice, just not so much on that point.

I went back to 3-4 Kirby Street EC1 to pay my respects yesterday and the old Katz office on the first floor now deals in gold and silver. Very fitting.

My condolences go to Pam, Anita and the wider Katz family. 

I first met Geoff in I think, 1988 when I went to show my early photography to a young upstart whom I'd heard was launching his own photo agency. His office was in Kirby Street in the heart of Hatton Garden, London's jewellery trade and I remember he had a couple of filing cabinets that it turned out were largely empty of pictures but which we quickly filled. Thereafter, Geoff took me under his wing, got me work, sold my pictures to magazines - and fast forward a couple of years, provided me with a confidence and a future in photojournalism, something I'm still working in with no small thanks to him. 

Geoff was my agent, mentor and friend - a fine example of how to conduct oneself in this creative business: How to make a deal, make a little money, while all the while keeping the respect of one's peers and clients. From those early days to the empire that Katz Pictures quickly became, Geoff was on the map as a much-trusted picture man. Commissioning editors and art directors came to him for his photography of course, but they also came to him for his fairness, knowledge, judgement and acumen. ‘A dominant go-to,’ was how a now eminent art director put it yesterday. 

And not solely one photographer – typically, a moany lot – have said to me how much they liked and admired Geoff and his principles. One told me that he’s never heard a bad word spoken about him which I think is pretty unique in a world of egos, greed and dishonesty.   

I also know how much he was respected by his hand-picked staff. They were also beginning their careers in the creative industries and have gone on to greater things after their days at Katz Pictures. Many are ‘heartbroken’ at losing such a pivotal part in their professional lives because Geoff was a good boss.

Geoff was a great champion of many creatives. I began my career at Katz Pictures in London and continued, briefly, at CPI in New York, where I also met my wife — both thanks to his company. Geoff was always wise, supportive, and deeply invested. I greatly valued our conversations and his guidance, whether in his Park Avenue office or over a lunch during my NYC visits long after I had left. Sending love and warmest memories to his family and friends. He was truly one of the greats.

Sending all my love and condolences.  I just found out from another former employee at CPI about Geoff's passing, and it immediately made my heart drop into my stomach.   While I only worked at CPI in the late 90s/early 2000s for a couple of years, I considered Geoff and Pam my "photo Mom and Dad".  During that time, they were very good to me.  I learned so much, and without them, I don't know if I would have gone on to have the career that I did.  I had so much respect for Geoff; he taught me a great deal.  Time passed, and I lost touch, but I would see his photos online or see him liking one of my posts, and somehow that felt like he was still checking in on me from time to time.  He was just a wonderful human being.  May you rest in peace, dear Geoff.

It is with a heavy heart that I say goodbye to one of my closest childhood friends.  I will always remember the laughs we had together, your kindness and love for others, and, and, and.
We only met a few times in New York, since you moved there, and I went the opposite way, you are always in my heart.

So very sad to hear this news . I met Geoff many years ago as he was the younger brother of my friend Paul.  We all grew up together in NW London and were in and out of each others houses, being carefree and learning about life . Unfortunately Geoff was troubled with ill health even then , but never complained and just got on with it. He made a huge success of his life and gave so much to so many , he will be greatly missed by all whose lives he touched

Hard to know where to begin…Geoffrey was a wonderful second cousin who I had the privilege of getting to know better during my exchange year in New York almost twenty years ago and stayed in contact ever since. He and Pam always treated me with kindness and respect, and I always appreciated the slice of British humour! You’ll be much missed by all of us.

As soon as I met Geoff I could see that he was a really lovely person. Very engaged, engaging with a lovely sunny disposition and a great sense of humour. I realise you will miss him terribly.

Geoff was a kind warm and sensitive man. We met 35 years ago by a chance meeting when my parents sat next to Pam on a flight to NY. There started an amazing friendship. We have all shared so much during the years and Geoff always welcomed me into their home whenever I was in NY. Geoff had a great way about him that made you feel immediately comfortable to be around and Stephen and I are so very sad for Pam, Anita, Paul and the rest of the family.
