Gwen is survived by her daughter, Deborah Solomon, her son-in-law, Jed Graham, and two grandchildren, Max Graham and Jack Graham, along with her granddogs, Coco and Bilbo. She was preceded in death by her husband, Stan Solomon and her son, David Solomon.
Anyone who knew Gwen knew her as a warm, engaging person but also someone with incredible strength and resolve. She was a fighter to the end, always looking for ways to prolong her life. She had a huge network of friends that she loved and cherished her weekly lunches, going to the theater and the symphony, going on walks with coffee as the destination and attending her book clubs.
Gwen was also an accomplished photographer and won several awards, including for her series of photographs, known as Backstories, that showcased interesting people she came across in New York City. Her photography was featured in local art shows and adorned the walls of several Upper West Side shops.
A lifelong educator and writer. Gwen was an early pioneer of using technology in schools to help students reach their potential. She published several books on education and technology and founded the School of the Future in NYC.
Gwen also worked for the Department of Education in Washington, DC during the Clinton administration. She and her husband, Stan, took full advantage of living in Washington, moving into an apartment on Connecticut Avenue down the street from the National Zoo.
But perhaps more than anything, Gwen was an amazing grandmother to Max and Jack. She embraced being a grandmother and loved to take Max and Jack all over the city, the Museum of Natural History, MOMA, the Met and the Historical Society. One of her favorite things was to walk into Central Park with her grandkids and watch them climb rocks and play.
She will be sorely missed by everyone whose life she touched.
