Harrel Samuel Silverstein was born in Trenton, New Jersey on Friday, October 13th, 1950. He was a graduate of Blair Academy (Class of ’68) and Syracuse University (Class of ’72). He went on to become Retail Ad Director for The Star-Ledger in Newark, NJ, and then, Executive Vice President and Marketing Director at Sillery and Partners in Stamford, Connecticut.
Later in life, Harrel was a family counselor at Woodlawn Cemetery in the Bronx, and then at Bethlehem Memorial Park in Bethlehem, PA—where his extraordinary kindness and great sense of humor touched so many lives.
Harrel loved driving, sailing, and fishing (always making sure to catch much bigger fish than his wife). He was a car fanatic, a devoted Boxer dog lover,
an avid Judge Judy watcher, and a lifelong fan of the New York Yankees—as well as basketball greats Oscar Robertson and Julius Erving.
Most of all, and above all, he loved his family: his devoted parents, Milton Silverstein (1923-1993) and Barbara Irving Silverstein (1926-2018), both of Trenton, NJ; his daughter, Stella Nadkarni (née Silverstein), whom he cherished and watched over all his life; and his beloved wife of 50 years, Sheralyn Silverstein (née Welch).
Harrel’s favorite song was “All the Way” by Frank Sinatra—fitting, because it is the way he devoted himself to those he loved—completely, steadfastly, and with his whole heart.
Donations in Harrel’s name may be made to the ASPCA and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
